1 JOB AND PERSON SPECIFICATION Position Title: Education Manager Reports Directly to: General Manager Commercial Responsible for: Member of: Grade: Team Leader Education Leadership Team Non-EBA Senior Manager About St John St John is a charity in the South Australian community working for the Service of Humanity. Our vision for the future, whether acting alone or in partnership with others, is the provision of charitable and humanitarian services to individuals, groups and organisations. Our relief work for persons in sickness, distress, suffering or danger recognises no barrier of race, colour or creed. Within South Australia, St John engages some 2,000 volunteers supporting the community in the provision of First Aid services and Community engagement. St John also employs approximately 90 paid staff, located at State Office and across the state. Purpose of the Position The Education Manager leads and has responsibility for the St John Education portfolio. The Manager will ensure the Education Services Division (ESD) delivers high quality training programs to meet the current and future needs of South Australian businesses, general public, volunteers and staff. The Education Manager will have full compliance accountability as part of St John s duty as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) provider under St John Australia s national registration. The Senior Manager will ensure the timely establishment and development of appropriate systems, policies, procedures, guidelines, assessment and reporting against the Training Excellence Framework (TEF). Continued employment is subject to the maintenance of a satisfactory NPC Will be required to undertake Child Safe Environments training within the first 6 months of employment A valid and current driver s license is required Organisational Relationships General Manager Commercial GM Personal Assistant Education Manager Team Leader Education Trainers Member of: Leadership Team Key Responsibilities Training Strategy Develop strategies and directions for Commercial Education, in conjunction with the General Manager Commercial, including the vision and tactical direction Lead Education Program execution ensuring appropriate resourcing Initiate, plan and design, execute, monitor and control projects as directed by the General Manager, Commercial Maximise revenue and profit from existing first aid courses, including e-learing Identify, assess and implement new sources of first aid training revenue including e-learning Identify new avenues for training revenue and profit (outside of first aid) consistent with the organisations marketing direction Assess and lead the development of new training opportunities identified and agreed by the General Manager, Commercial Assist in the development, forecasting and management of the ESD budget Monitor and report on the business unit s operating budget 2

3 Training Quality and & RTO Compliance Full responsibility of St John SA s ongoing training compliance and annual audits in line with St John s National RTO requirements Review the quality and compliance of the ESD and identify and remedy shortcomings Establish a Training Excellence Framework (TEF) including the development and implementation of best-practice policies, procedures, guidelines and systems Implement a Performance Implementation Program (PIP) that continually assesses ESD performance against industry best-practice and delivers necessary improvements Assess the requirements of establishing St John SA as an RTO Ensure St John SA is in a position to become a RTO Communication & Liaison Develop and maintain commercial relationships with key stakeholders Maintain regular liaison with other members of the Education Team to ensure coordination of the management of trainers and training programs Participate in St John staff meetings and consultation processes and facilitate staff access to information via updates, team meetings, newsletters and other communication channels Model St John values and play a role in raising the profile of these values and associated behaviours across the organisation Financial Management Maximise revenue and profit from existing training courses and identify and implement new sources of training revenue Develop, monitor and report on the business unit s operating budget Monitor compliance with all outstanding financial obligations Assist in the development, forecasting and management of the ESD budget. Leadership Energetic, positive and motivating leadership of the Organisations Education Services Division in line with St John SA s Vision, Mission, Strategic Plan, and Values Influential Leadership of the ESD Teams to ensure a cohesive culture of excellence and improvement Strong leadership and support of Volunteer Training Responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management and support of the Education team, including recruitment, monitoring delivery against objectives, quality standards, personal development, coaching and appraisals Ensure all direct reports have performance development plans in place and that regular reviews and appraisals are conducted in line with St John policy Ensure the Education team is fully informed of the strategies and activities of St John. Ensure the corporate image and public profile required by St John is maintained on all sites at all times. Ensure that the ESD is outcome focused and individual team members have clear delivery objectives that are measured and managed Coordinate with line managers to identify training needs of staff in order to enhance their performance 3

4 Workplace Health & Safety Maintain current First Aid Certificate, Manual Handling and Infection Control Training and ensure staff also maintain training. Ensure day-to-day management of Work, Health and Safety issues within the work area and demonstrate leadership and communication on these matters. Undertake risk assessment of the work area when workplace changes occur (including renovations, painting, new equipment etc). Ensure staff and volunteers are aware of workplace health and safety responsibilities, and that these are effectively undertaken (including workplace assessments etc.). 7 Knowledge Knowledge of quality training standards and RTO requirements Essential Qualifications Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant training products and courses Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel etc Demonstrated understanding and ability to interpret legislative requirements Exposure to, or an understanding of, the dynamics and drivers of charitable organisations Tertiary qualifications in vocational education, training or business management Certificate IV in Training & Assessment Acquire (if not already held) maintained first aid certificate General Position Information This is a three year full-time contract currently based in the State Office in Unley. Nominal working hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm however the position requires some flexibility in order to meet organisational needs.
