6 After arrival: Incoming students, who start learning at the Faculty of Management, should firstly receive a student card. Student card is the most important document to your contacts with our University. The charge of student card is 17 PLN. After arrival you should pay 17 PLN in one of our cash desks: 1. Faculty of Management, Armii Krajowej 101, Sopot Open hours: Monday: p.m. Tuesday-Friday: p.m. 2.Rektorat -University of Gdansk, BaŜyńskiego 1a, Gdańsk-Oliwa Open hours: Monday: p.m. Tuesday-Friday: p.m. After payment, you will receive a confirmation from cash desk, which you should bring to the Students Office, room 121 at the Faculty. There, you will receive your student card (few days after payment) and your examination form. After the end of semester, you should bring your examination form and student card back to room 121. Based on the examination form, Students Office is making The Transcript of Records for sending institution. Student should bring the examination form and student card to the Office one week before leaving to their country. Educational and social environment: LIBRARIES: Main Library: 6

7 The Library of the University of Gdańsk was founded in 1970 at the same time when the University of Gdańsk was established. The Library consists of the Main Library in Gdańsk-Oliwa, seven specialist libraries and the British Library. Apart from being an academic library it also serves as an educational, information and cultural centre for the whole region. The collection has an universal character. However, consideration is given to the disciplines represented at the University and maritime issues. 8 ACCOMMODATION: Close to the Faculty in Sopot, there are two student s hostels, no. 7 and no. 8. Last one, no. 9 is located near the beach. 11 COSTS OF LIVING: In Poland you can use your credit cards: Visa, American Express, Eurocard, Eurocheque are accepted in most hotels and banks in all large cities. Shopping: In the city you will find many shops where you can get almost everything you need. There are several big Shopping Centres also. There is student s cafeteria in the Faculty building. Approximate cost of living: -Dinner in student s cafeteria-10pln -Milk-3.0 PLN -Bread-3.0 PLN -Butter-3.5PLN -Eggs x PLN -Pizza-15PLN -Yoghurt-1.80 PLN -Cigarettes-11PLN -Beer-3.00 PLN (in Pubs around 9PLN) -Tram/Bus ticket: PLN -Cinema-25 PLN -Daily Newspaper-2.00 PLN -Shampoo, soap PLN COMMUNICATION: The public transport in 3city (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia)- includes 10 tramlines and 84 bus lines- Gdansk, and 110 bus lines in Gdynia. Some of them are connecting Sopot with Gdansk and Gdynia. The tickets are for single use: one ticket for one ride. In all the three cities the time of punching in buses and trams is printed on the ticket, after punched in the bus. Students are given 50% discount on ticket fares (after showing their student cards during control). You can buy a ticket from driver of the bus/tram. The three cities are interconnected by a local train called SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska- The Fast City Train). The journey between the main stations of Gdansk and Gdynia lasts about 35 minutes. In rush hours the train leaves every 10 minutes, at other times every 30 minutes, with break between 1 and 4 a.m. There is a distance-limit system of fares on SKM, so while buying ticket you should say where you want to get to. The ticket must be punched at railway station, before ascending the train. Student s are given 37% discount on ticket fares. You can buy a tickets in ticket office next to station or in the ticket machine in the platform station (this one are automatically punched). There are also a large system of taxi transportation. BUS 143 This bus line, is connected a dormitory no. 9 with Faculty of Management. You have to get off at bus stop: Sopot-Sikorskiego. You can check the timetable at the website: 11

12 HEALTH INSURANCES: Students from EU member states should ensure to bring the Health insurance issued at their home country. Otherwise you will be asked to pay for any health service you get. Beginning on the 1 st May 2004 EU citizens are entitled to free health service providing the present: 1. current student ID 2. current passport or other ID card/document 3. European Health Insurance Card or- Insurance Certificate issued in a home country The documents are issued for a defined period. Free health service is provided to the holder of those documents during the stated period only.
