General regulations 4.1 The purpose of the performance appraisal rating system of the students is a comprehensive assessment of the quality of academic work in the learning process, activation the students systematic work during academic subjects learning and improvement the objectivity of knowledge evaluation by teachers. 4.2 The students should attend all the types of in-class lessons such as lectures, practical lessons, seminars and laboritary reserches. They should fulfil all the tasks of SIW and Tutorials including the night watch plan for clinical subjects. 4.3 The students have to be in advance acquainted with the contents and the procedure of the rating calculation for all types of academic activities and all kinds of control. 4.4 Student academic rating (SAR) consists of the admission rating (AR) and rating of summative assessment (RSA). 4.5 Current grades control, tutorial, SIW and exam in subject are conducted by the teacher who conducts the lessons in a group in accordance with the academic calendar of KSMU, course schedule, schedule of SIW tasks delivering. 4.6 A teacher is responsible for the correctness of student rating calculation. 4.7 The students current academic progress marks given by the teacher, the results of Midterm Examination, admission rating, summative assessment and student academic rating in the subject should be brought to the students attention. 5. Students current performance assessment 5.1 The basic knowledge level assessment is carried out at the first lesson of the subject. The mark for basic knowledge is registered in academic register using 100-point scale. When calculating AD the basic level mark is not considered The student current marks are assigned by the teacher in academic register on the 100-point scale for each completed task/section (integrated theme, which can contain several classes). When assigning the current marks for the task/section all the types of training activities (in-class, out-of-class) should be considered, including medical duty for clinical subjects. The mark for intern portfolio is considered to be the mark for one task. Only the marks for completed tasks are logged in electronic journal IS Platon. Educational, curricular practical training, on-the-job training, pedagogical and research trainings are not marked by current grades. 5.3 Midterm Examination is conducted during the Tutorial according to thematic plans for at least 2 times. For 45-hours disciplines it is conducted only ones. The Midterm Examination of interns is conducted at SIW. The average grade for mastered skills in the center of practical skills (CPS) is registered as additional Midterm Examination.

The form, terms and number of Midterm examinations are approved at the department meeting and recorded in the subject syllabus, where all the midterm examinations program and grading policy must be submitted. The Midterm examination in physical education is conducted in the form of the reaching a qualifying standard. The midterm examination is not conducted in military arts division subjects. The midterm examination should cover the entire volume of the material learned before, including the questions from SIW and Tutorial The calculation of the current performance rating (admission rating) is conducted by calculating the arithmetic mean of all the current grades and Midterm examination grades. ( ) ( ) grades for tasks number of tasks Midterm examination grades number of Midterm examination 6. The terms for make up work of skipped classes 6.1 The classes missed because of unexcuse absence can t be made up. If the amount of skipped hours is 50% or more of the total number of hours devoted to practical training related to this task/section, the student is not allowed to exams in the task/section. The mark «0» is logged in electronic journal. 6.2 Only classes missed because of legitimate absence can be made up. For make up work the student: receives the study permit from a dean/deputy dean of a faculty; provides the permit to the department not later than the second class after studies resumption. The skipped laboratory works and practical classes can be made up only before completed task/section delivery. 6.3 Make up work terms: the theme is made up orally with a teacher on duty, according to the schedule of consultations and individual work with the students of the department; the made up work of the classes in CPS is carried out in accordance with the schedule of consultations and individual work of CPS with students. In the case of the legitimate absence being not made up, it will be amounted to unexcused absence and the rule of the section 6.1 will be applied to it. 6.4 If a student, graduate student, resident or a doctoral student for a good reason missed the classes of the last two weeks of the semester, including the last class, Dean of the Faculty permits the student to make up classes and to do an

exam according to the individual schedule. 6.5 If a student missed more than one third of the total number of days of the semester due to illness, he has the right to apply to the KSMU clinic for calling the medical-control commission (MCC) to consider the receiving medical report about the bases for providing the academic leave. 7. The rules for providing information about the students academic performance and admission to the examination period 7.1 Not later than 25 th day of the month the departments and CPS report to the deaneries about the student attestation, about the students with mid-level performance (which have the grades for the task/section or midterm examination not more than 70%) and students with bad performance (which have the grades for the task/section or midterm examination less than 65%). 7.2 The departments should completely fill the electronic journal not later than the last day of the term. The admission rating will be automatically set according to these results. All students should be aware of the admission rating and if necessary, lodge an appeal. 7.3 The admission to examinations is carried out in two stages: At the first stage per the faculty dean, the students, who are not in academic leave or long-term care, who don t have payment debts and academic failures in Prerequisites, they are allowed to examination period. The permit to exams should be written down in academic record book on the right side in the upper corner. The dean s order about the permit to exams is provided to the registrar s office on the last day of the term. At the second stage the automatic exams permit is carried out on the ground of admission rating. The registrar s office makes this permit and issues the exam record. 7.4 If an illness progresses within the last week of the term, the student must provide a sick-voucher to the dean s office by the monitor or his representative not later than the penultimate day of the term. Pursuant to the sick-voucher the Dean s office allows making up the missed classes and sets an individual schedule up for taking exams. If the sick-voucher is not provided, the absences would be considered as unexcused. 8. The rules for summative assessment making 8.1 In accordance with an operating education plan the summative assessment is carried out by way of mixed-marking-system test or exam. 8.2 The summative assessment covers the entire material volume provided by the subject program. The subject program should be written in syllabus with all the questions of content within designated hours. The tests and test questions for the summative assessment mustn t be given the students. 8.3 The form and procedure of the summative assessment in every subject are offered by the departments and approved by the Academic Council of KSMU no later than one month from the beginning of the academic period

8.4 The registrar s office performs and organizes the exams. The students and teachers should be informed about the exams schedule no later than one month before interim attestation (examination period) 8.5 The summative assessment with tests or scripts is carried out at the same time for all academic batches. 8.6 Only the students with 50% and more admission rating are allowed to the summative assessment (mixed-marking-system test or exam). If the admission rating is less than 50%, the entry not allowed is made in the exam record opposite the student name. When calculating GPA, the non-admission to the summative assessment is equated with the grade «0». 8.7 If the student was absent at the summative assessment in due time specified in the schedule, the mark absent is made in the exam record opposite the student name. No-show student should write an Excuse Note addressed to the dean and enclose documents proving the legitimate absence. If the absence is acknowledged legitimate, the dean decides to make an exam singularly. The unexcused absence is equated with the grade «0». 8.8 If the student was expelled, left classroom or computer-based testing room without permission broke the rules of internal regulations (told, used cell phone, cheat notes and other communication tools, falsified document of identification, filled in for other examinee, etc.), the result of summative assessment would be cancelled and the mark «0» is allotted to examination record. 8.9 If the student furnishes the sick-voucher, maternity certificate, certificate about a relative death, business and educational trip, the dean can permit the student to pass exams on an individual schedule. At the same time the exam sheet is issues as the appointment for the exam At the examination the student should bring his grade book and identification. Immediately prior to the exam, the student is issued claims sheet, where he can write his comments on the incorrect questions, technical errors, and etc., for eventual appeal The examination record is filled in by examiner If the student does not agree with the result of admission rating and / or the results of summative assessment, he has the right to file an appeal not later than the day after the announcement of the admission rating and / or the results of the summative assessment. For this purpose, for the period of examinations (interim attestation) by the order of the rector Appeals Commission is created from the teachers whose qualifications fit the profile of subjects made for the period of the examination session. 9. Student academic rating calculation 9.1 Student academic rating consists of current performance rating (0,42), Midterm Examination rating (0,18) for academic period or academic year (which is 60% of the final assessment of knowledge in the subject), rating of summative assessment (0,4), which is 40% of the final knowledge assessment in the subject. It can be calculated from the formula:

9.2 For all practices SAR is equal to RSA. When conducting the grading test in curricular practical training and on-the-job training, RSA is graded on 100-point system. At appointment the two heads on practice the total mark is allotted taking into account the mark given by the head of the base of practice, which is 40% of the final assessment and the mark of the practice head from the university, which is 60% of the final assessment: the mark on 100-point scale, allotted by the practice head from the university; the mark on 100-point scale, allotted by the practice head from the practice base; 9.3 If an unsatisfactory RSA (less than 50%) is received, the academic rating will not be calculated and the student should be send to re-study of the subject. 9.4 The exams marks in the subjects taught at the military department are not counted when calculating the GPA and appointing a scholarship. 10. GPA calculation methodology. Transfer grade 10.1 GPA calculation example: Subject Number of credits Mark in alphabetic system Digital equivalent Mathematics 1 А 4,00 Informatics 3 В 3,00 Physiology 2 D+ 1,33 Kazakh language 6 С- 1,67 Mathematics Informatics Physiology Kazakh language Total amount Total number of credits

10.2 The transference GPA in KSMU is defined on the base of GPA calculation and corresponds: For General Medicine students transference from 1 to 2 year 2,50 from 2 to 3 year 2,60 from 3 to 4 year 2,70 from 4 to 5 year 2,80 from 5 to 6 year 2,90 from 6 to 7 year 3,00 For Stomatology students transference from 1 to 2 year 2,40 from 2 to 3 year 2,50 from 3 to 4 year 2,60 from 4 to 5 year 2,70 from 5 to 6 year 2,80 For Public health care, Nursing care, Medical and preventative care, Pharmacy, Biology, Industrial pharmaceutical technology students transference from 1 to 2 year 2,3 from 2 to 3 year 2,4 from 3 to 4 year 2,5; from 4 to 5 year 2,6; For graduate students and residents transference 3,20 points; For PhD students 3, Transference of students from year to year 11.1 The received positive mark according to the SAR calculation serves as a basis for offset of assigned amount of the credits or hours on the corresponding discipline The student completely fulfilled requirements of the curriculum of this year, successfully passed all the exams and received the required transfer point, can be transferred to the next year If the student transferred to the next year has an academic debt, he should repeatedly study the corresponding disciplines on a paid basis within one academic period. Students enroll in the disciplines of academic debt in the registrar's office during the first two weeks of the term. The registrar s office specialists create IEP The student can re-take the same discipline, no more than twice Students left after the summer exam session for re-passing discipline, can eliminate the academic debt during the summer semester, for a fee. The duration of the summer term is 6 weeks. Beginning and end of the summer term is

defined by the academic calendar. Students are recorded on the academic discipline of debt in the registrar's office, which is formed on the basis of the IEP Students who have completely executed the program of the corresponding course, that is, having no academic debts, but does not achieve the minimum score of the transfer, in order to increase their GPA can enroll in the registrar's office for the summer semester for re-examination of a discipline on a fee basis (with the exception of discipline "History of Kazakhstan", in which shall be the state exam) and retake exams on them Classes during the summer semester are conducted in accordance with the schedule drawn up by training center Students the owners of the state educational grants who didn't get the established lowest passing score (GPA) and left on a repeated course lose a grant and continue the training on a fee basis.

Exhibit 1. Criteria for students knowledge and skills assessment in practical training for theoretical subjects Mark in alphabetic system А А- В+ В В- С+ С Knowledge assessment criteria The answer is exhaustively complete and correct. The student deeply studied the main and additional literature recommended by the program. He intelligently handles the basic terms of discipline and training material of high complexity. He is able to integrate this knowledge with knowledge in related academic disciplines. He possesses the skills of the experiment (chemical or other depending on the discipline) and interprets the experimental data, analyzes and makes reasoned conclusions. The answer is complete and correct. The student has a systematic knowledge of the learning program material, deeply learned the basic and familiar with additional literature, the recommended program. He is able to connect this knowledge with knowledge of related disciplines. He possesses the skills of the experiment (chemical or other depending on the discipline) and is able to analyze the results of the experiment. The answer is quite complete. Student knows the program material, learns basic literature recommended by the program, correctly uses specific terminology, uncertainly (but correctly) explains the importance and role of a process. In the answer he makes single insignificant mistakes which are corrected be himself. Possesses the skills of carrying out experiment (chemical or other depending on discipline), can analyze and draw up the results of the experiment. The answer is complete. The student knows the program training material, acquired the main literature recommended by the program. In general he correctly applies specific terminology but makes some insignificant mistakes in knowledge and actions which are eliminated at leading questions of the teacher. He possesses the skills of carrying out experiment (chemical or other depending on discipline), can analyze its course. The answer is correct, but not complete. Student has learned the basic literature, recommended by the program, correctly uses specific terminology, can tell the main mechanisms of development of this or that process, but difficult to decipher. In the answer he makes several minor mistakes, which are corrected with the assistance of the teacher. He possesses the skills of carrying out experiment (chemical or other depending on discipline). He is at a loss in the analysis of an experiment results. The answer is incomplete, contains insignificant mistakes that student corrects with leading questions of the teacher. The student has knowledge of the basic educational program material to the extent necessary for further study, learned the basic literature, recommended by the program. He uses specific terminology, refers to the basic mechanisms, but cannot confidently determine their value, experiences difficulties in free application of knowledge on concrete examples. Owns the main skills of carrying out experiment, but he is at a loss in the analysis and formation of its results. Incomplete knowledge of discipline contains single essential mistakes which the student corrects at the directing (additional) questions of the teacher. The student has the skills to use specific terminology but he is at a loss in definition of mechanisms of the described phenomena. He have the basic skills of the experiment (chemical or other depending on the discipline), but cannot analyze its course and results.

С- D+ D F The answer shows insufficient knowledge of the program of training material. The student makes essential mistakes, some of which can be corrected with the help of a teacher. He uses the specific terminology, but he is at a loss in definition of the meaning of some terms. He makes the mistakes in the description of mechanisms of the phenomena, in writing formulas. He is not always able to integrate the knowledge with the material of related subjects. He can actively participate in carrying out an experiment under the leadership of the teacher or the leader of group but can't analyze and summarize its results. The answer is insufficient and with many inaccuracies. There are significant mistakes. Only in some cases the student uses specific terminology, but not quite right. He is at loss in describing the mechanisms of basic phenomena, cannot prove their relationship, and cannot correctly define the basic concepts of the discipline. He has not enough skills to carry out experiments. The answer contains numerous essential mistakes which the student can't eliminate even with the additional (directing) teacher's questions. The student incorrectly uses terminology, isn't able to give definition of concepts and terms, formulations of basic laws and doesn t know classification. He doesn't understand an essence of the main processes, mechanisms, and cannot write up the material. He knows about the skills of carrying out experiment, but owns only the separate. Student refuses to answer or his response demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge upon the educational material. The student cannot solve any problem, he is not involved in the experiment, does not possess any of the skills of its productions

Mark in alphabetic system А А- В+ В В- С+ Exhibit 2. Criteria for students knowledge and skills assessment in practical training for clinical subjects Knowledge assessment criteria The content of the theoretical issues of discipline were fully disclosed and the perfect clinical skills were shown. When answering the terminology and symbols were used in the subject area in the required logical order. The student shows proficiency of training material of various degrees of complexity, using, if necessary, information from other disciplines and courses. The student shows his skills in skill to develop their arguments, to find the problem and ways to solve it. The student shows the ability to think and perform practical work independently. All tasks of practical part are performed at the high level, the clinical thinking is shown. Decisions are characterized by logicality, validity, rationality. Shows possibilities of non-standard approaches to the solution of tasks. Perfectly knows communicative skills. When answering the student shows proficiency of the program educational material of various degrees of complexity, he is fully aware of the content of the discipline, is able to creatively use of this knowledge while working with patients. While solving the tasks of the practical part, the student shows excellent technique and clinical thinking. At the perfect answer the small defect which is easily eliminated answering is allowed and doesn't influence the end result. He is good in communication. The student is fluent in program training material. There are one-two defects which the student corrects himself. If the additional task is set, the student successfully overcomes difficulties of an unfamiliar situation, showing clinical thinking, good technique of clinical skills and methods of communication The student generally has knowledge of the program material, freely operating with them in a familiar situation. When answering, two or three faults are allowed. The student confidently answers the additional questions concerning basic provisions of the studied course, but hampered by the decision of the clinical problems in an unfamiliar situation for him. Ability to apply knowledge and appropriate clinical skills for solving standard problems. There are insignificant mistakes in the registration of a report on the practical assignment (work with the patient). He not quite confident owns communication skills, but demonstrates the ability to engage in effective dialogue. Basic provisions of a training material are stated with some mistakes. However at the answer to additional questions the student shows knowledge of the main sections of a training material with lack of gross blunders and is able to apply the main clinical skills. There are small defects in registration of the report on practical part (work with patients). Communicative skills were not fully used The student not accurately knows the educational material. The answer is a fragmentary, schematic. Additional questions regarding the basic concepts and facts of the clinical examination of the patient (clinical situation) cause difficulties for student understanding of the use of clinical terminology. When performing tasks the practical part of the student admits serious mistakes. Uncertainly applies clinical skills. Solves the typical clinical problems with mistakes, but eventually came to the right conclusion with the help of a teacher. Makes mistakes in communication with the patient and medical staff

С С- D+ D F He is not fully aware of the program of educational material, incorrectly performs a number of methods of clinical research. The student can apply knowledge only in a typical familiar situation, and at minor change of the question experiences difficulties. There are also difficulties in the application of special skills. He can solve only standard clinical problems, shows weak knowledge of communicative skills The student attempted to answer the question, but his knowledge is fragmentary and unsystematic. Low level of terminology knowledge. The third of practical tasks is executed. The student connects the studied theoretical material with the solution of specific clinical objectives insufficiently. He can't independently work with patients without the assistance of the teacher and knows only theoretical ideas of communicative competence of the doctor Student attempted to answer the question, which shows only a slight notion of the learning material. Systematic knowledge is absent in theoretical area of a subject matter. He poorly knows clinical skills. It is solved less than a quarter of practical tasks. There are essential defects both in the solution of clinical tasks, and in registration of reports on practical tasks. He badly imagines communicative competence of the doctor When answering the question, the student shows the lack of clear understanding of the theoretical content of the discipline. The attempt to solve the offered clinical problem was made, but there were a lot of mistakes. The practical task is executed only partially. The student has some clinical skills The student refuses to answer or when he tries to answer the question, he demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge upon the educational material. Any clinical problems were not solved, any practical task were not performed.
