3 Foreword by the Dean The history of the Faculty dates back to 1953 when the University of Economics, Prague was founded, and within which the Faculty of Production Economics was established; after the 1989 transformation, it transitioned into the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA). Throughout its sixty-year history, the Faculty has focused on the education of graduates, focused on microeconomics, i.e. to various positions including senior management in economics, business, marketing, personnel and other areas of business as well as non-profit organizations. The Faculty is one of five faculties of the University of Economics, Prague based at the Zizkov campus; its offices are located in the modern so-called Paradise Building. In recent history, FBA s predominant academic focus at all levels of study (bachelor s, master s and doctoral) has been directed towards Business Administration and Management. This focus has recently been extended to include undergraduate and graduate studies focused on Arts Management. Faculty teaching takes place mainly in the Czech language, but FBA also provides education at the bachelor s degree level in Russian and English. At the graduate level, FBA offers a master s degree in International Management, taught in English, which is organized in cooperation with 28 leading universities from around the world and which has received top rankings for a number of years by the Financial Times. At present, the Faculty also organizes numerous continuing education programs, including MBA studies. FBA s research activities are, by their nature, more applied research. Every year, many current economic and managerial issues are addressed at the Faculty. Academics are well-known publically as authors of scientific publications in the fields of business economics, management, marketing, sociology, psychology, human resources, logistics, etc. Virtually since its inception, FBA has maintained close links with the private and public sectors. Corporate partners offer the Faculty s students a wide range of topics on which to focus their bachelor s and master s theses; in addition, top executives enrich the teaching environment by providing many attractive topics from real business life. A modern higher educational institution must have extensive international contacts. In the case of our Faculty, we are involved in an international study program called CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education); we also provide numerous fellowships for students and lectures by visiting professors from abroad, etc. It is the ambition of FBA s management for the Faculty to take a leading position among Central European higher educational institutions focused on preparing economically and managerially savvy experts for the field. Repeated inclusion of FBA in the prestigious ranking of economically oriented schools by the Financial Times suggests that it is going in the right direction. prof. Ing. Jaromír Veber, CSc.

4 Profile and Organizational Structure At present, FBA has more than students. The number of teachers employed on a permanent basis is around 100; there are also 40 external lecturers who work in the eight departments of FBA. 5 Study and Pedagogical Activities Education in the bachelor s and master s degree programs is in the full-time form. Studies in the master s degree in Business Administration can also be done on a part-time basis. Similarly, teaching in doctoral programs is implemented on both a fulltime and part-time basis. There is no tuition charged for programs taught in the Czech language. All other programs charge tuition fees. FBA also implements various training courses within the framework of lifelong learning, including an MBA program, under similar financial conditions. It is a superior educational and training program for talented students, taught in Czech and in English; it extends the knowledge and skills of students as well as enables them to have direct contact with attractive business partners.

There is no tuition charged for programs taught in the Czech language. All other programs charge tuition fees.

6 Internationalization Internationalization is one of FBA s main priorities. FBA is a member of EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). Internationalization, Science and Research, Corporate Relations Candidates may study the bachelor s, master s and doctoral programs in English or Russian. Teaching in foreign languages is also a mandatory part of any study programs taught in Czech, when part of the participants are foreign students coming from abroad to study at the University of Economics, Prague for a semester. The classes in foreign languages are taught by both FBA s teachers and visiting professors from foreign universities. The International Management master s program is a flagship programme of FBA; this program is fully taught in English, its implementation is carried out within the framework of the CEMS MIM (Master s Degree in International Management) international master s program. As part of this discipline, there are one semester study stays carried out at a CEMS partner university abroad and internship abroad. Science and Research The scientific research activity of FBA is primarily focused on the analysis and development of knowledge in the areas of economic, managerial and entrepreneurial behavior, especially for businesses, but also non-profit and other organizations. In all these areas, new insights and concepts are studied, developed and organized with a focus on microeconomic regularities and their development, business economics, management, marketing, psychology, sociology and management, human resource development and human resources, logistics and operational management processes, etc. There are grant projects oriented toward these areas, for which FBA is responsible. FBA publishes the Central European Business Review, a scientific journal. Corporate Relations Linking FBA with the private sector has traditionally been among the most important of FBA s directions for development. The FBA s partners are, for example, Metrostav a. s., Plzeňský prazdroj, a. s., Škoda Auto, a. s., Hopi, a. s., Crocodille ČR, spol. s r. o. These and many other partners support FBA s development through the involvement of managers in teaching, consultations on bachelor s, master s and doctoral theses, and participation in scientific conferences. There is also significant cooperation done within the CEMS framework, the strategic alliance of CEMS member universities and corporate partners. Companies are offered close partnership with outstanding students from an international program.

Teaching in foreign languages is also a mandatory part of any study programs taught in Czech, when part of the participants are foreign students coming from abroad to study at the University of
