1 Downloading Installing And First-Time Use Updating and Scanning Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.42 DOWNLOADING Download the latest version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (currently 1.42) from In the top search bar, type in the word malwarebytes and hit ENTER or click on the MAGNIFIER button to the right. NOTE: Be VERY careful of the search results that may appear. You want to come down the page, below the sponsored links. There could be times where a sponsored link looks very close to what you are searching on. These are misleading programs and you do not want to download/install them. Click on the Download Now link on the right.

2 When you click on Download Now, you might get a Warning Message from Internet Explorer or something similar if you are using a different browser. Click on the Warning Bar and then click on Download File. Click on Save. When the Save As dialog box comes up, click on the Desktop icon on the left, make sure Save In at the top says Desktop, and then click on Save. At this point, the file gets saved to your Desktop.

3 INSTALLING AND FIRST-TIME USE Double-click on your downloaded file to begin the installation process. Click on Run if you get the following Security Warning: At the Select Setup Language screen, leave English as the default language. Click on OK. At the Welcome to the Malwarebytes Anti- Malware Setup Wizard screen, click on Next.

4 At the License Agreement screen, click on I accept the agreement and then click on Next. At the Information screen, click on Next. At the Select Destination Location screen, keep the default C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and click on Next,

5 At the Select Start Menu Folder screen, accept the default Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and click on Next. At the Select Additional Tasks screen, make sure the first option is checked on (Create a desktop icon) and click on Next. At the Ready To Install screen, click on Install. Files get copied at this point. At the Completing the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Setup Wizard screen, leave both options checked on and click on Finish.

6 The program downloads the latest definition file if you are connected to the Internet. Click OK when it gets finished updating to the latest database file. Once the main menu of the program loads, you can click on the RED X in the upper-right-hand corner to close the program, or you can click on Exit in the lower-left-hand corner.

7 UPDATING / SCANNING Open the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program by double-clicking the icon on the desktop, or by clicking the icon through Start - All Programs - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This is the main Spybot screen. Before doing a Full Scan, you always want to be sure to download the latest updates and definition files for the program. Click on the Update tab. On the Update tab, click on Check for Updates. At this point, you will either see the file downloading screen or you will get a message stating you have the latest updates. Click on OK.

8 Click on the Scanner tab, then Perform full scan, and then click on Scan. Once nice thing about this program is that in addition to the regular hard drive, you can also scan Flash Memory drives, etc. You at least want to make sure Drive C:\ is checked on. Check on any other drive letters that you want to scan and then click on Start Scan. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware prepares to do a full scan. It will then start scanning key areas of Windows (C:\Windows and C:\Program Files) before doing an alphabetical scan of the selected drives meaning, you will see if it is at the beginning of the scan, in the middle, or towards the end, depending on what folder it is currently scanning. For example, Documents and Settings, Program Files, Windows, etc.

9 Once the scan completes, you want to see the window that is displayed which states, The scan completed successfully. No malicious items were detected, click Main Menu. Click on OK. Then click on Exit. **SHOULD** the scan find any infections, you will get notified in 2 ways: 1) Objects infected will show as BOLD under Objects Scanned on the left. 2) The final message will instruct you to click on Show Results. Follow the prompts from there to Remove and Quarantine infected objects. In either case, you will see a Log window pop up such as the one below. If there were any infected objects, each line should say Quarantined and Deleted Successfully. You can then close out of the log and close out of the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program. Keep on updating and scanning the program until there are no more threats found. NOTE: You might have to do this in Safe Mode depending on how badly you are infected. That is it! Congratulations! It is a good idea to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware about once per month. Just remember to always get updates before running your next full scan. Any questions, me at [email protected].
