1 Neshannock Township School District Curriculum Overview Computer Graphics Plan Course of Study Course Objectives: Materials: Knowledge Base: Grading Procedure and Assessments: Curriculum Alignment: Course Description: Required This is a full year, one-half-time, ½ credit course This is an introductory course for any student who would like to use the computer to create art and design projects. The course includes creating a variety of different types of drawing, painting and photo manipulating design projects in Adobe Photoshop. Basic elements of designs and compositions are taught and works will be critiqued as a group and individually with the teacher. Students will also learn how to use printers and scanners. Essential Skills: Critical Thinking, Listening, Oral Communication, Problem Solving, Reading, Research, Technology, Writing Applications/Connections: Adobe Photoshop Adobe Imageready 1

2 Course Objectives: A. Students will recognize and demonstrate use of the art elements and principles. B. Students will know, use, and apply fundamental vocabulary of computer art. C. Students will demonstrate knowledge of a variety of Graphic Design concepts through the exhibition of unique work. D. Students will communicate a unifying theme or point of view through the production of works in the arts. E. Students will demonstrate and maintain materials, equipment, and tools safely at school and home. F. Students will incorporate specific uses of traditional and contemporary technologies within the design, production, and exhibiting of computer art. G. Students will analyze a work of art from its historical and cultural perspective. H. Students will identify, describe and analyze the work of Pennsylvania Artists in computer art. I. Students will identify, explain and analyze traditions as they relate to works in the arts. J. Students will explain and apply the critical examination processes of works in the arts and humanities. K. Students will analyze and interpret works in the arts and humanities from different societies using culturally specific vocabulary of critical response. L. Students will describe and analyze the effects that works in the arts have on groups, individuals and the culture. M.
