Removing Barriers to Practice & Care AHA Releases White Paper on Redesigned Primary Care Model The American Hospital Association (AHA) has just released a white paper, Workforce Roles in a Redesigned Primary Care Model, presenting the findings of a 2011 roundtable of clinical and health systems experts, including physicians and nurse leaders. The roundtable examined the future primary care workforce needs of patients, as well as the role hospitals and health care systems can play in effectively delivering primary care. The report presented recommendations on two fronts: first, how to define workforce roles for a new primary care environment; and second, developing a new, more effective model of primary care delivery that encompasses the birth to end of life continuum. Read the executive summary and full report here. Promoting Nurses as Leaders
5 CCNA Kicks Off 2013 Leadership Learning Collaborative Teleconferences CCNA s first Leadership Learning Collaborative teleconference will be held on February 12, 3:00 4:00 pm ET. The goal of these teleconferences is to connect state action coalitions with the people, ideas and programs that are preparing nurses to be leaders. Calls will offer a discussion forum around topics most relevant to the leadership work that is happening within states or nationally. We ve invited call leads who have experience on the given topics to share their experiences from their states and/or organizations and help guide the discussion. The February topic will be building your leadership workgroup and setting leadership goals in your AC, led by those involved in leadership work in VA, ND and NC. Invitations with more details will go out to AC leadership workgroup leads or nurse co leads this week. Health Innovations MedPAC to Review IOM Future of Nursing Report The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) will review the IOM report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, and examine its implications for future Medicare policies. Commission Chairman Glenn Hackbarth expressed a personal interest in looking more closely at the IOM findings, while Commissioner Mary Naylor suggested the panel should include consideration of graduate nursing education in its discussion. MedPAC is an advisory body to Congress that issues formal recommendations twice yearly. Second Term Name Change: HHS Prepares for Health Insurance Marketplace Want to learn more about the federal health insurance exchange that will be established by 2014 as part of the Affordable Care Act? You may need to search for the Health Insurance Marketplace, the new name for the exchange being used by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). According to HealthCare.gov, The Marketplace is designed to help you find health insurance that fits your budget, with less hassle. Every health insurance plan in the new Marketplace will offer comprehensive coverage, from doctors to medications to hospital visits. You can compare all your insurance options based on price, benefits, quality, and other features that may be important to you, in plain language that makes sense. The Marketplace will be open to provide information about insurance plans starting in October 2013 with coverage beginning in January HHS is also referring to state based exchanges as Marketplaces. Learn more about state Marketplaces here.
