4 SHERLOCK Jooney Bug RECORDER: Eye : SB-BUG100 VX0166 BEFORE FIRST USE - TIME STAMP You will need to save and UNZIP the time file. If you are unable to UNZIP then we recommend you download the two files from TECH SUPPORT. The reason we give both options is that some computers wont download the files directly and hence we zip them to make it easier to download and use them. These files are needed to set the time and date stamp on your Sherlock voice recorder. 1. Make sure your recorder is in OFF position then PLUG it into your USB port on your computer. Please connect DIRECTLY to your computers USB port. (not via a hub) NOTE: If you you are not able to download and unzip, please copy the 2 files individually under UNZIPPED from the TECH SUPPORT section and save them on the voice recorder. If you are not unzipping, then please skip to page 7. UNZIPPING: Click this file CHROME BROWSER After clicking file will download and you will see it here (if you are using CHROME) Page 4

Click OPEN to open the files that are contained in this file. 2. Click ONCE on this folder so that it is highlighted. 3. Then click on EX- TRACT FILES Page 5

6 SHERLOCK Jooney Bug RECORDER: Eye : SB-BUG100 VX After clicking EXTRACT FILES you will get another pop up asking you where you want to save the file. Click browse to fine the drive your recorder is plugged into and select it. It should appear as shown to left. The drive letter on your computer may be different. If you know the driver you can just type it as shown to left and then press EXTRACT. The two files will be saved in that root section. Page 6

7 SHERLOCK RECORDER: VX After pressing extract, you will notice that the files will be saved and extracted onto the root section of your SHERLOCK recorder 6. Double click SetUDISK- Time(9X).exe. Your time will be updated. You should see a SUCCESS notification. Great job! You have now updated the time on your device. Page 7

Else continue below: Direct Download (time files): Download these two files and SAVE AS to the root section. Refer below: Save the two files here Your driver letter may be different Page 8

9 SHERLOCK RECORDER: VX0166 After saving the two files, ouble click SetUDISKTime(9X).exe. Your time will be updated. You should see a SUCCESS notification. Great job! You have now updated the time on your device. IMPORTANT Before you close out and unplg your device, we recommend that you delete the two sample music files. This will avoid confusion when you plug in your headphones to play back. These files are named: 1. The day you went away.mp take me to your heart Right click and select DELETE for each. NOW, you may close out all windows and unplug your unit to test to make sure the time stamp is working. NOTE: If you prefer to use this unit as an MP3 player later on, you can just upload your own songs so that as soon as you plug in your headphones, it will start playing the songs (or files) in sequence. 10 SHERLOCK Jooney Bug RECORDER: Eye : SB-BUG100 VX0166 BEFORE FIRST USE - CHARGING The SHERLOCK voice activated voice recorder is simple to use. It automatically begins recording in voice activated mode up to 48 hours on a full charge. 1. Charge unit for about 4 hours to get a full complete charge 2. Turn switch to ON positon and place where you want and let it record. 3. When done recording TURN SWITCH TO OFF before plugging to your computer or before plugging headphones to listen. Turning it off ensures that recorded file is SAVED. OFF/Stop/Save recording ON/Start recording Page 10

Ensure there is AAA battery Before plugging in to recorder, do the following: 1. Turn power on speaker to ON 2. Make sure Sherlock recorder is in OFF position 3. Plug in speaker to Sherlock recorder 4. Turn Sherlock recorder to ON positon 5. Files on your recorder should start plaing back in a few seconds 6. Adjust volume to your comfort level 7. When done TURN OFF VOICE RECORDER BEFORE unplugging speaker. NOTE: While a headphone or speaker is plugged in, The Sherlock voice recorder will not record! Page 11

12 SHERLOCK RECORDER: VX0166 PLAYING BACK RECORDINGS As mentioned earlier TURN UNIT OFF BEFORE PLUGGING TO YOUR COM- PUTER OR BEFORE PLUGGING YOUR HEADPHONES. There are two ways to play back your recordings: HEADPHONES (or the optional speaker mentioned on previous page): 1. Make sure voice recorder is in OFF position 2. Plug in included headphones 3. Turn switch to ON position 4. You should start hearing the first file play as soon you turn to ON 5. Please note that the files will be played sequentially. You will not be able to skip to a different file or fast forward. This feature is possible if you listen via your computer COMPUTER: 1. Make sure device is in OFF position/ 2. Plug to computer USB port 3. Open pop up folder and then open RECORD folder to view recorded files 4. Notice that files are saved as TIME STAMP (when the recording began) 5. Double click the file you wish to listen to Page 12

14 SHERLOCK RECORDER: VX0166 SUGGESTED SOFTWARE Your Windows PC or Mac has built-in software that will play most of the files created by devices like yours. However, if you are having problems playing your files, or need more options, please download and try these programs. This software is free and can be downloaded directly from the links below. You can find support and tutorials for these programs on their respective websites. SafetyBasement can not provide software support for these programs As with ANY files you download from the internet, be sure to scan them for viruses using your particular virus scanner. While most users report no issues using this software, we can not be responsible for any damage caused by this software. Please proceed carefully. Back up your PC before installing any new software. VIDEO PLAYBACK - VLC ( The VLC Media Player can play almost any video or audio file type. There is a version for Windows and for Mac OS X. VIDEO EDITING for WINDOWS - MOVIE MAKER 2012 ( Movie Maker is a simple video editing program from Microsoft. Please go to this link, and choose the download for your version of Windows. Please note: Movie Maker is part of the Windows Essentials package. VIDEO EDITING for MAC OS X - imovie (Visit the Apple Mac App Store for latest version) imovie is a simple video editing program from Apple. It comes installed with your new Mac. The latest version is also available at the Mac App Store at additional cost. AUDIO PLAYBACK and EDITING - AUDACITY ( Audacity is a popular audio editing program used by amateurs and professionals to edit simple and complex audio projects. You can use Audacity to convert your audio files to another format, such as MP3. There is a version for Windows and Mac OS X. PHOTOS Your Windows and Mac computers have the ability to do basic editing of photos built in. Page 14
