The board includes a full Ethernet interface implemented with Microchip Technology new Stand-Alone ENC28J60 Ethernet Network Controller plus a SD/MMC memory card connector and interface with the microcontroller. 2007, LJCV Electronics Preliminary Information Page 1

2 General Description The PICNet 1 is a versatile development prototype board that supports a variety of 28 and 40 pin Microchip Technology 8-bit microcontrollers. The board includes a full 10BaseT Ethernet interface based on Microchip Technology new ENC28J60 [C1] IEEE Stand-Alone Ethernet controller with integrated SPI bus interface, MAC and 10BASE-T PHY (ENC). Taking advantage of the SPI bus the board also counts with a SD/MMC memory card socket with logic interface with the microcontroller, and an 8 pin IC socket for a serial EEPROM memory such as the Microchip Technology 25LC256. Available clock sources include: a surface mount or thru hole crystal, or a ceramic resonator, or a half can oscillator, or the clock output from the Ethernet Controller. Also solder pads are available if you wish to install a 32KHz Crystal and load capacitors to use the MCU Real Time Clock features. The PICNet 1 counts with a full bridge rectifier and +5V and +3.3V 1A Voltage regulators and requires a stable 7-9V DC power source with at least 250mA. In addition the PICNet 1 includes an RJ-11 ICSP interface connector for MCU programming and debugging with development tools such as Microchip Tecnology ICD2, and a standard RS-232 serial interface. The 2 x2.25 prototype area has 437 connection points available with 0.1 spacing and easy access to power supply sources and MCU I/O ports, and to 8 user LEDs (limiting resistors included).
