1 UnionPay Online Payment enabled by NAB Transact. Getting Started Guide and Forms April 2013 (v1.2)
2 Access consumers in China with UnionPay Online Payment This guide will introduce you to the UnionPay Online Payment (UPOP) service and explain how NAB can enable you accept payments from UnionPay cardholders in China. At the end of the Guide you will find the terms and conditions for the UPOP service from NAB and a registration form to add UPOP to your NAB Transact ecommerce merchant facility. Internet shopping in China With the economy booming and increasing numbers of Internet users in China, online shopping has become one of the most vibrant markets. In 2012, 242 million Chinese people used the Internet for shopping, 43% more than the previous year 1. Furthermore, economic globalisation has resulted in an increasing demand from Chinese people to purchase products from abroad via the Internet. In recent years, growing online-shopping for foreign products by young Chinese consumers have been driven primarily by their perceptions of the brand quality and the convenience provided by Internet based payments. About UPOP Security, efficiency, reliability and operational convenience are all critical factors which must be considered when using an online payment service provider. UnionPay Online Payment (UPOP) designed by UnionPay offers solutions to address the payment preferences of Chinese consumers. UPOP, an integrated Internet payment tool, provides three payment methods: Veri-Pay: a payment method where the cardholder enters their details on the UPOP payment page with verification provided by a dynamic SMS code. Express-Pay: a payment method where the cardholder has to be a registered user first and then process using the SMS verification without entering card details each time. ebank-pay: a payment method which is integrated with the issuers internet banking. Benefits The range of UPOP payment options delivers a number of benefits, including: Convenience: flexible payments improve online shopping experience of cardholders, so UPOP helps you attract more customers and promotes your online business. Security: provides multiple protections for security including static verification, dynamic verification and a private security key. Imagine millions of buyers at your door We are the first Australian bank to offer UnionPay card acceptance online and through our NAB merchant terminals and ATMs. Offering Chinese consumers and businesses the ability to purchase in their local currency, UnionPay provides real convenience and the opportunity for Australian businesses to expand into the Chinese market. What is UnionPay? UnionPay is the payment card universally accepted throughout China, and is the only card brand representing all Chinese banks on the Chinese mainland. China UnionPay was established in 2002 by the People s Bank of China (the equivalent of our Reserve Bank). It is now one of the largest card schemes in the world with almost 3.5 billion cards issued and rapidly growing, with footprints in 141 countries and regions. In 2012 the global UnionPay transaction volume reached 21.8 trillion Yuan (about 3.5 trillion USD) with an increase of 37% year on year. Universal acceptance: being free of currency conversion fees, the cardholder can enjoy global online shopping in just a click at home. Advantages for you With the powerful brand support of UnionPay, UPOP provides considerable customer education resources and business opportunities by enhancing cardholders confidence and trust in paying online. UPOP provides a secure transaction environment based on the strong electronic payment service capability of UnionPay. Advantages for your customers in China UPOP provides cardholders with secure, convenient, global, multi-choice Internet payment services through a wide range of participating banks. UPOP offers various payment methods for cardholders to choose from, plus an extensive acceptance network both at home and abroad, strict merchant credit certification, and financial-level credit guarantee. UnionPay does not charge cardholders a conversion fee for UPOP purchases from international merchants. 1 China Internet Network Information Center, Statistical Report on Internet Development in China (January 2013) Page 2 of 7
3 How does UPOP work? NAB Transact Payment Gateway 5 Issuer System 6 3 UPOP interactive page Step 1: A cardholder places an order on the website of an online merchant by clicking the add to cart or checkout button which initiates a transaction. Step 2: The transaction information is forwarded to the UPOP system through NAB Transact. Meanwhile, the URL of the cardholder s browser is redirected to a UPOP webpage. Step 3: Multiple payment methods are provided on the UPOP webpage. It is up to the cardholder to choose their preferred payment method. UPOP is responsible for card number collection and facilitates authentication of the transaction once the payment method is selected. Step 4: UPOP forwards the payment information to the card issuer. Step 5: The issuer checks the payment information received, and will authorise or decline the transaction. Step 6: NAB Transact is notified by UPOP about the transaction result and the details are passed to the merchant so that the result can be presented to the cardholder by the merchant website. Payment methods explained You don t need to worry about how the cardholder submits their payment or what sort of card they use, as all of the card entry and payment validation is handled by UnionPay. Once the verification code is confirmed to be entered correctly, the transaction information including that mobile phone number is sent to the issuer. Besides the card information, the issuer will also check whether the mobile phone number is consistent with the one that the cardholder left with the issuer. This double verification protects the card against unauthorised use and reduces the fraud risk greatly. Express-Pay For those who do not wish to enter all the card information every time they make purchases online, Express-Pay provides an excellent solution. To use this method of payment, a cardholder must sign up to be a registered user first. Some general information such as personal information, contact information and security prompts are entered on the UPOP web page and the cardholder has to set up a user ID and password for future logins. At least one bank card number is linked. Once an account has been created, at least one bank card needs to be linked to this account. Each time the cardholder would like to buy something online, he/she just needs to sign in the account, choose an associated card and then enter a mobile number for SMS verification. ebank-pay When using this method, the cardholder only needs to enter the card number and the system will automatically redirect the cardholder s browser to an internet banking webpage associated with the entered card number. Veri-Pay The cardholder enters their mobile phone number and card information on the UPOP webpage. An SMS containing a dynamic verification code would be sent to that phone number. Page 3 of 7
4 UPOP business rules Multicurrency UPOP is a multicurrency service, enabling you to sell in either Australian Dollar or Chinese Renminbi (RMB/CNY). Settlement All transactions are settled in AUD. If applicable, currency conversion will be performed by UnionPay and the exchange rate advised at time of processing. UPOP settlement is aligned to the UnionPay settlement cut-off of pm Beijing time. Funds will be credited to your nominated account overnight the following business day. Transaction Amount Limit In order to reduce potential fraud risks, UnionPay requires limits for online transactions; therefore NAB maintains the following limits for UPOP merchants: Business type Airline, Hotel, Education and Government related services Luxury goods, wedding services, beauty products, duty free shops Transaction limit (CNY) Debit card daily limit (CNY) 100, ,000 30,000 50,000 Electronics Goods, Gifts 15,000 30,000 General Business, Department store, Car Rental & Maintenance and Miscellaneous Courier Services, Telecommunications, Games top-up 10,000 20, ,000 Other Merchants 5,000 5,000 Notes for the transaction amount limit rules: 1. Transaction limits are not set for credit cards as the available credit line is the amount limit for these cards. 2. Under certain circumstances, merchants may apply for a higher transaction limit for debit cards. 3. There are approximately 6.5 CNY to 1 AUD (March 2013). Refer to XE.com for exchange rate history. Prohibited businesses Refunds In the initial release of UPOP for NAB Transact, refunds must be requested in writing and processed by the NAB Merchant Operations department. The Refund Request form is included with this Guide, or you can request a copy from the Help Desk. Future enhancements to NAB Transact will enable refunds to be processed in the same way as other card transactions. Payment gateway integration NAB is using the NAB Transact payment gateway for all UnionPay Online Payment processing, including connectivity to the UPOP payment pages, transaction history and settlement. UPOP has been integrated with the NAB Transact Direct Post version 2 interface so that our merchants have the ability to accept UnionPay as well as other card types using a single integration. However, if you use another payment gateway already, you may choose to maintain this solution for your existing card acceptance and just add NAB Transact for UnionPay. Over time, other payment gateways may opt to add UnionPay acceptance. The Integration Guide for NAB Transact Direct Post v2 is available from the NAB Transact Product Documentation and Downloads menu. Website requirements To ensure that your potential Chinese customers know that you accept UnionPay and therefore feel confident to shop on your site, it is important that you display the UnionPay logo in a prominent position on your site. The UnionPay logo is available from the NAB Transact Product Documentation and Downloads menu. Registration In order to access UPOP, NAB must register your merchant details with UnionPay. Please complete the attached form and NAB will take care of the rest. Promoting your business in China When you register to use UPOP, you may also elect to provide details of your business that will be published on the Australian merchant directory on UnionPay s website. UnionPay does not support the following business types: Agricultural co-operatives Wire transfers and money orders Financial institutions merchandise & services Non-financial institutions foreign currency, money orders (not wire transfer), scrip, and travellers cheques Securities brokers and dealers Betting, including lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, off-track betting, and wagers at race tracks Page 4 of 7
