1 Remote Desktop for Mac Accessing Your Towson Computer Remotely Introduction The Remote Desktop Gateway allows faculty and staff at Towson University to connect remotely to their Windows-based Towson computer from a Mac computer (home, hotel or different location on campus). Once connected, you will see the desktop of the computer you are remotely connected to. You will have access to all software and data, just as if you were actually sitting at the computer. Requirements To connect to your Towson computer using the Remote Desktop Gateway, the following is required: Your on-campus computer must be running Windows. Your on-campus computer must be powered on and connected to the Towson network when you wish to connect to it remotely. Your home/connecting computer must be running Max OS X or later. You must locate the PC name of the computer you wish to connect to. 2 3. The application will launch and the main screen will appear (Fig ). Figure. Click the Preferences Icon (Fig, ) to add a new Remote Gateway. This is required first before creating any connections. The Preferences screen will appear (Fig 3). 5. Click the + sign (Fig 3, ) to add a new Remote Desktop Connection Figure 3

3 6. The Preferences screen will appear (Fig ). In the Gateway Name box, type Towson Remote Desktop Gateway (Fig, ). 7. In the Server box, type remotedesktop.towson.edu (Fig, ). 8. In the User name box (Fig, 3), type towsonu\netid (replace the word NetID with your own NetID username). Figure 3 9. In the Password box (Fig, ), enter your Password. 0. Close the Preferences window by clicking the Red close icon (Fig, 5). Adding a Desktop Connection Once a Gateway has been defined, a connection to your PC must be added.. Click the New icon to create a new Remote Desktop connection (Fig 5, ). Figure 5. The Edit Remote Desktops window will appear (Fig 6). 3

4 3. In the Connection name box, type a generic name for this connection (Fig 6, ).. In the PC name box, type the PC Name of your Towson Computer (Fig 6, ). This is found in the Properties window of the Computer and typically takes on the form of both letters and numbers eg: YX In the Gateway dropdown, select Towson Remote Desktop Gateway from the list (Fig 6, 3). 6. In the User name box (Fig 6, ), type towsonu\netid (replace the word NetID with your own NetID username). 7. In the Password box (Fig 6, 5), enter your Password. 8. Leave the remaining options as is. Close the window by clicking the Red close icon (Fig 6, 6). Figure

5 Connecting to your Computer Once the connection has been made, you can now connect to your computer.. On the main window, under My Desktops, double-click the connection (Fig 7, ) to connect to the remote PC. Figure 7. A connection to your computer will begin. You will receive a certificate warning message (Fig 8). 3. To trust this connection, click the Show Certificate button (Fig 8, ). Figure 8 5

6 . The Verify Certificate window will appear (Fig 9). Figure 9 5. Under the Trust toggle, select Always Trust from the When using this certificate dropdown (Fig 9, ). 6. Click the Continue button (Fig 9, ). 7. You may be prompted for an administrator username and password to authenticate the certificate trust. This will require an admin account on the Mac to add the certificate to the Mac Keychain. 6
