1 Appendix 2: Intended learning outcomes of the Bachelor IBA Intended international & intercultural learning outcomes are presented in bold. Content related aspects Have knowledge of business administrative theoretical insights and factual findings on business: o The functioning of businesses and business processes in their mutual context; o Organisational knowledge (structure, function, systems theory, methods of analyses, design methods, schools, management styles, et cetera); o Environmental knowledge: competitors relations, international cooperation, social responsibility, cultural diversity; o Interaction between companies and determinants of business development. Have knowledge of business administrative theoretical insights and factual findings on management of business processes in an international context, on business administrative (sub)sectors like: o Information management; o Management of primary processes (logistics, supply chain, operations management); o Human resource management; o Marketing management; o Strategic management; o Finance and investments; o Accounting and control; o Management of innovation and change; o Stakeholder management; o Leadership; o Entrepreneurship; o Ethics, corporate social responsibility; o Cross-cultural management Have knowledge of theoretical basics of business administration, especially the mutual relations between the historical, the reflective and the philosophy of science backgrounds of business administration. Have knowledge of methods of scientific research, especially about the distinction between the nature, the problems, the possibilities and the limitations of business research. Acknowledge the interdisciplinary approach of business administration and have knowledge of concepts from the economic, behavioural sciences, technological and institutional disciplines in relation to the theoretical foundations of the business sciences: o Economics: introduction to general economics, microeconomics and macroeconomics; o Business economics; o Behavioural and social sciences: organisational culture, organisational sociology and organisational Psychology; social psychology; o o Jurisprudence: law (contracts, legislation and regulation); Technological sciences: foundations of technology, technological developments and the relations with business and business processes; ICT.
2 Skills related aspects Analytical skills: o For business problems, which have no standard procedure to a solution, be able to structure and through logical reasoning deduce the most relevant points and draw conclusions; o In analysing a business problem be able to use and connect knowledge and theories from different sub disciplines and on that basis be able to design solutions (interdisciplinarity); o Be able to compare business literature on a certain topic in a certain sub area and apply this to a business case and be able to assess the contents of publications from a interdisciplinary perspective; o In analysing business problems be able to apply qualitative and quantitative techniques (a.o. statistical and modelling techniques); o In a group be able to formulate and execute a study thereby regarding the different stages in a research process such as: formulating a research plan; refer to relevant literature; collect, process and interpret the data; translate finding into conclusions and recommendations. Social communicative skills: o In a group be able to prepare and execute a written and/or oral report on a scientific level about a business topic; o In a critical discussion be able to defend the proposed problem formulations and solutions with sound arguments as well as be able to criticize those of others; o From a changing position be able to effectively and efficiently participate in a meeting; o Be able to formulate an opinion even with incomplete and/or conflicting information; o Be able to come to an agreement in a negotiation situation; o Be able to give a presentation with an account of the findings and recommendations regarding a business theme; o Be able to deal with other people and be able to work in a team with people with different backgrounds and expertise; o Be able to function in an international business context, often in foreign countries; o Be able to communicate with professional and non-professional partners from different fields of language and culture; o Be able to communicate in the English language. Managerial skills: o Be able to make a plan of actions to be conducted on a business theme; o In a decision process be able to make clear which organisational interests are served with a decision and be able to create support for the decision; o Be able to make a reasoned decision about a business case; o Be able to bear responsibility in the professional business situation; o Be able to make a reasoned choice when opposing viewpoints and interests occur; o Be able to structure and lead in organisations; o Be able to handle topics such as power and interest in a rational and affective manner. General: o Have practiced skills in practical situations; o In practical problems be able to connect knowledge from sub disciplines.
3 Attitude related aspects Regarding business science: o Understand and accept the ethical and normative ways of thinking in scientific reflection; o In apparent trivial business affairs be able to point to particular relations and new viewpoints and be able to recognise connections between different aspects of business administration; o Make independent choices for knowledge increase and business research. Regarding reflective ability: o Recognise your own limitations, i.e. call upon expertise from others at the proper moment refrain from acting in appropriate situations; o Sense and assess consequences from your own actions for others; o Be prepared to revise your own views when needed; o Consider personal development in practicing your profession and make independent choices taking into account external developments (life long learning); o Interpret and accept your personal place in society; o Understand and interpret cultural limitations and restrictions; o Be able to appreciate cultural differences. Business ethical actions: o Work according to the principles of trust and mutuality (integrity); o In decision processes conscious handling of ethical dilemmas (sense of values); o View once own as well as others work and reflection from a critical and creative attitude; o Make the values of a intercultural and international orientation the basis of your view of man and society; o Accept corporate social responsibility and sustainability as values.
