1 How much will a website cost? This this a common question we get from many businesses planning a new website project. To answer this accurately for you or your business specifically, we need to know the scope and requirements of your website project. These will dictate what services you require from us and what features the final solution will have. So what information in order to give a quote? We are more than happy to chat or meet up to discuss your requirements, but you can start by outlining your business, situation and requirements of a new website or application. You can this to us or use our template document: ekit-website- Project-Who-What-Why-When. We can send you a copy anytime by or even by snail-mail if you prefer! Instead of doing this, some businesses just send us a request for proposal (RFP). This is usually comprehensive document, and can include: 1) The business overview & background - history, business model, customers, suppliers etc. 2) Why a new solution is needed. 3) Details of the requirements for the website or app (as it is understood so far) 4) General details like budget, time scales and contacts etc. We use this document to build a comprehensive proposal and costing based on the information provided. Many small (and not so small) business don t devote the time and resources needed to produce a RFP document like this. 3 Example Costing 1 - Carpenter A carpenter has no existing website, just a basic logo that he is happy with. He has a very limited budget for the site and just needs a small number of pages introducing the business and services. He is not hugely fussy about the design, but wants it to have the business logo and colours on. He is not wanting any sort of blog or news, but needs to be able to edit and review pages every few months. He wants to initially build the content himself, but wants us to fill in the content for the home page as an example. It is understood that he will need to write all the words and provide all the images that they want on the site. His logo would ideally be re-drawn in a web format (SVG), but to save money he will just give us a JPG he already has. She would like a very simple logo designed. She requires the ability to create new pages with galleries of images - probably around 5 different gallery pages initially. She needs to be able to easily upload images to the gallery and have the gallery system automatically resize, create thumbnails and layout the images in a gallery. She would like a simple responsive design for her website, based on an existing template to keep the costs down. She would like to post news about her work and exhibitions, and is happy to write all the text and take all the pictures for the website herself. She would like to upload and build the website content herself using the CMS but would like a morning of training to get off on the right path. 4 Example Costing 3 - Small organisation (a) An local environmental organisation wishes to have a website that shows what they do and gives their latest news. They also want the site to list their committee and members. The organisation already has their own logo, but wants a new design for their website, built from a responsive website template. They want new members to be able to submit their details online. The organisation will be responsible for creating all text and image content and would like ekit to help build some of it building it on the website pages. They want to launch the site fairly quickly and have all the website content built and styled professionally in the first instance and styled by ekit. 5 Example Costing 5 - manufacturing business A manufacturing business with 9 employees wishes to update their old website. They have a moderate volume of information to go on the website, roughly 25 pages in 4 sections & 70 products, and they want to get their products and services pages to achieve higher positions in search engine results. They want an original, unique and modern design for the website with a business re-brand and new logo. They want to sell online and need to be able to manage all their products and services online. An employee will input and update all the product details. They wish to have a news blog, a page showing all the employees, a photo galleries for specific projects and a simple short video introducing the business, products and services. 6 Example Costing 6 - Small recruitment company A specialist recruiting company wishes to modernise their business by rebranding, rethinking their marketing strategy and building a new website to help them run the business more efficiently. They need to have a couple specific web systems developed for the new website: 1) A Vacancy System to publish online. This would allow 3rd party businesses to register and manage a list of vacancies they have created as well as tools for management to administer the entire vacancy database. They have around 200 companies with 150 vacancies to be set up initially. 2) A People System for candidate management. This would allow individuals to register and manage their own details online - everything from contact detail to location preferences and skills. Also needed on the CMS are the business tools for managing these people. They have around 1300 people to go on the system initially. They want a complete re-brand and new logo along with an original, unique design for the website. They are looking for additional support and testing for their website facilities to work on mobile, tablet and other web devices. They need to be able to take payments on the website and also an article system for their news. The site needs a foundation of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and they wish to run an advertising campaign through Google Adwords. ( 200/month budget) They would like some professional writing services to ensure the website reads properly and a session with a professional photographer to obtain a set of images to use both on the site and on printed material. They would like to launch the site ASAP, and so would like to have all the initial content pages of the website built and styled by a professional. They want extended support during the first year. Unless there are specific software solutions already out there, Open source or paid for, that serve you purposes (and there often are) then new application development costs can be significant, depending on the complexity.
