1 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION A. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall have the qualifications of a teacher as prescribed by the State Department of Education. 2. The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall hold at least a master degree from an accredited college or university and a valid administrator s certificate. 3. The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall have had at least five (5) years of successful administrative, and/or supervisory experience. B. APPOINTMENT: The Board of Trustees shall appoint the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools for a term of not more than two (2) years, and the contract will be considered for extension at the regular February meeting each year. C. REPORTS TO: The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall be responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. D. SUPERVISES: The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction will supervise: 1. The Program Director of Elementary Performing Arts 2. The Curriculum & Instruction Program Directors E. JOB PERFORMANCE STATEMENTS: 1. Instructional Management a. Directs instructional and curriculum services to meet students needs. b. Plans, implements, and evaluates instructional programs with teacher and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques. c. Applies research and district studies to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process. 2013
2 d. Works with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis. e. Involves instructional staff in evaluating and selecting textbooks and other instructional materials to meet student learning needs. f. Facilitates the use of technology in the teaching-learning process. g. Plans the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of educational goals. h. Leads instructional staff in developing and implementing professional development for administrators and teachers to improve the teaching-learning process and to meet district goals. 2. School Climate a. Communicates effectively with campus level staff, the community and parents and/or students when appropriate. b. Works harmoniously with all administrative and teaching personnel. 3. School Improvement a. Participates in the district-level decision process to establish and review the district s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district. b. Actively supports the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and the campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators). c. Obtains and uses evaluative findings, including student achievement data to examine curriculum/instructional program effectiveness. d. Provides campus leaders with research based strategies to ensure academic achievement. 4. Personnel Management a. Assists, as appropriate, with the Professional Development and Appraisal System. b. Secures program directors, specialists, and other community resources for principals and supervised instructional staff to assist in attaining objectives. c. Provides effective staff development activities that support the goals and objectives of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others
3 d. Reviews the goals and objectives of: (1)The Program Director of Elementary Performing Arts (2) The Curriculum and Instruction Program Directors e. Evaluates job performance of the following staff members to ensure effectiveness: (1) The Program Director of Elementary Performing Arts (2) The Curriculum and Instruction Program Directors 5. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management a. Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education Rule, and the local board policy in the area of curriculum and instruction. b. Ensures that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently c. Ensures that budgets are adhered to by those supervised. d. Compiles budgets and cost estimates based upon documented program needs. e. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required. 6. Student Management a. Demonstrates support for district s student management policies and expected student behavior related to instructional programs. b. Addresses student management through staff development. 7. School/Community Relations a. Articulates the district s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicits their support in realizing the mission. b. Demonstrates awareness of district-community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs. c. Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. d. Projects a positive image to the community
4 8. Professional Growth and Development a. Uses information provided through assessment instruments, the district appraisal process, and evaluative feedback from supervisors to improve performance. b. Strives to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities. c. Utilizes information and insights gained in professional development programs for self-improvement. d. Disseminates ideas and information to other professionals; provides leadership in addressing the challenges facing the profession. e. Conducts oneself in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner. 9. Other a. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. F. EVALUATION: 1. The job performance statements shall constitute the criteria for an evaluation form with an evaluation code as follows: NA Measure Not Being Taken 1 No Measurable Progress 2 Progressed Toward The Goal 3 Met The Goal 4 Exceeded The Goal 5 Significantly Exceeded The Goal 2. The evaluation form shall contain a place for comments and general observations made by the evaluating person. These comments shall constitute additional criteria for evaluation. 3. The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction s evaluation is a responsibility resting with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. An evaluation shall be completed in writing at least once during the course of the school year

The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction shall submit to the Superintendent of Schools or the staff person designated by the Superintendent of Schools, the completed evaluation of the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the time stipulated by the Superintendent of Schools. 5. Administrators will be appraised according to the following calendar: Action Plan and Goal Setting Conference Data Collection and Analysis Contract Recommendation Summative Conference June - August September - May January May/June G. SALARY: The salary of the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall be based on the schedule adopted by the Board of Trustees for this position.
