4 WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND The one law you can almost guarantee the Alabama Legislature will change or attempt to change during a legislative session is Alabama s Driving Under the Influence Law. Enhancement of punishment provisions are altered, deferred prosecution programs are approved, completely new options such as the interlock ignition device and restricted driving privileges for those who install them are passed into law. In May, 2013, the National Transportation Safety Board voted to recommend that all states lower the blood-alcohol content that constitutes drunk driving from a BAC level of.08 to a BAC level of.05. If adopted in Alabama, significant legislative changes would occur. The result of these legislative changes often result in confusion, enforcement problems, financial hardship, and unanswered questions. The purpose of this seminar is to provide accurate, up-to-date information concerning these and other issues facing prosecutors, judges, defense attorneys and court officials. The seminar is designed to cover every aspect of a DUI case, from the initial stop of the vehicle to the final appeal of the case. The faculty will provide current information and share effective strategies for handling a DUI case. In addition, the latest technology used by the Department of Forensic Sciences will be available for an on-site demonstration throughout the day.
