Introduction System Overview The Danfoss Central Station Software Package runs on an IBM compatible Personal Computer using Windows 95, 98 or NT. Compatibility with Windows 2000 and ME is expected. The Central Station system allows the monitoring and configuration of remote Woodley temperature monitoring devices via a telephone line and modem or directly via the RS232 port and cabling. At the present time, connection can be made to the Woodley s5, Micromon, m2, Woodley 4 and Vigil units. The Danfoss Central Station Package also includes the Minitel Emulation Software which can be selected if required to monitor and configure remote s5, Micromon and m2 units. Note: Some versions of the Micromon have an RS485 interface which replaces the RS232 port. In this case, the PC can be fitted with an RS485 converter to allow communication with this type of Micromon. 16 Uploading Data from a Site Use this option to automatically dial the selected site and upload the latest alarm, event and historic data. To upload data from the connected site, either click on the Upload Data From Site button on the Site Menu Options window; click on the Upload button, select Upload from the Site pull-down menu, or press the Ctrl + U keys. The Upload Data From Site window is displayed. However, if the Dial option has been passcode protected, the Enter Passcode window will be displayed first. Type in your dial passcode and either press Enter or click on the OK button. Notes: 1. If you do not know the passcode, refer to your System Administrator. 2. Once a passcode has been entered, it will remain valid for up to 5 minutes. During this period, the user can perform similar operations without having to reenter the passcode. 3. If no passcode has been specified the Enter Passcode window will not appear. Once this window is displayed, select what data you wish to upload. Note: There are no selection options for the Micromon and m2. To adjust the amount of data uploaded for an m2, use the Minitel connection to specify the Upload Period to Sample Frequency (refer to the Woodley m2 User Guide). A Micromon always uploads all the data in its memory. Start and End times: (These options are not available for the Micromon and m2.) You can upload the data within a specified time period by specifying the Start and End times and dates. Note: On System5 only, you can set the start and end times to be exactly the same. This is a method of uploading the channel names without any data. 16 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss Central Station Version 3

Data type: (These options are not available for the Micromon and m2.) Select Alarms to upload alarms, and/or Historic Data to upload graphical data (trends). Note: If Historic Data is de-selected for S5 (System 5), the units list is greyed out, as unit selection can only be made with regard to Historic Data. Resolution: (Only available for S5.) Select High resolution to upload data recorded on the S5 at a rate of one sample per minute. Select Low Resolution to upload data recorded at the programmed sample rate. Units: Select the points from which the data will be uploaded. If a successful upload has already been completed from a particular site, a list of data items appears. These data items can be selected individually or in groups for uploading. However, if this is the first upload from a particular site, then all the data items on the site are automatically uploaded. Depending on the type of Woodley unit on a site, different limitations will exist on what can be selected for uploading. (Refer to Appendix A for a list of possible options.) Note also that System 5 uploads can take a long time, depending on the length of time and number of channels selected. For the first upload, Central Station does not have information about the channels on the System 5. If you set the start and end time to be the same for the upload, the list of channels can be uploaded without any data. You can then upload for the required time period for specific channels. Finally, click on the OK button. The Connecting window appears with a progress bar showing you that the connecting operation is in progress. When the uploading takes place a progress bar is displayed on the Status Bar and the Tx and Rx transmission indicators in the bottom right hand corner of the screen will flash. During the upload, Uploading... window is displayed: The site name is inserted into the title ( Uploading from site ), and the current action is displayed above the buttons. Press Hide to remove this window. It has no effect on the upload. Press Abort Upload to stop uploading. Central Station Version 3 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss

The upload can take a variable amount of time depending upon the amount of data to be transferred, the unit type and the connection speed specified. When the upload has finished, the data will be ready for viewing. Either select Viewing Alarms/Events or select Viewing Historic Data to display a graph. Uploading from a Vigil/Woodley4 Danfoss Central Station allows the facility to automatically use the ID of the Vigil/W4 as the site name before starting an upload. After the upload has been requested, the ID is automatically obtained from the unit. If it is the same as the current site name, the upload continues as normal. If the ID is different from the current site name, a window is displayed giving the user the option of which site name to use. The first button contains the ID of the unit, and the second button contains the current site name. In this example G111ABC is the ID of the unit. Press this key to create a site of this name automatically, change this to be the current site, and continue with the upload to this new site. If the site name already exists, the site becomes the current site and the upload continues. In this example, Vigil is the current site name. Press this key to continue uploading using the current site. Press New Name to enter a new site name that is neither the unit ID or the current site name. A new site is created which becomes the current site, and the upload continues. Press Cancel Upload to completely cancel the upload operation. Note: If the ID obtained from the unit has any leading spaces, or any trailing dots or spaces, these are removed before the ID is displayed in the Upload from new site window, and used as a site name. This is to avoid confusion with the standard format of Windows file names. A simple guide is not to use spaces or dots in the ID on a Vigil or Woodley 4. Aborting an Upload During an upload, if the Uploading window is not displayed, select Upload, either via the menu or the toolbar. The Uploading window is displayed. Press Abort Upload. 18 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss Central Station Version 3

Viewing Alarms/Events This option allows you to view the alarms/events which have been uploaded and stored on the Central Station. If you wish to see the current alarms/events, you must perform an upload operation immediately prior to using this option. To view the stored alarms and events for the selected site, either click on the View Alarms button on the Site Menu Options window, select the Alarms option from the View pull-down menu, or press the Ctrl + A keys. In either case, the View Alarms window is displayed. Specify the Start and End Time and Date by positioning the mouse cursor at the start of each entry box and modifying the field as appropriate or use the increment/decrement buttons as required. If you wish to view the events as well, ensure that the Include Events check box is selected. Click on the check box to display a ü (include events) or to remove the ü (do not display events) as required. Similarly, if you wish to view the Warnings as well, ensure that the Include Warnings check box is selected. If you wish to display the alarms for all groups, click on the appropriate check box. Note: The Warnings category is only applicable to System 5. Now select a combination of data to be included in the alarm list from the two selection boxes. Finally, click on the OK button. All the details of the alarms (with alarm numbers) followed by the events and warnings (if selected) within the specified period will be displayed in the Stored Alarms window. Note: The events do not have alarm numbers. Note: The Data Purge period defines how long the Alarms/ Events are stored in the system. Central Station Version 3 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss

Note: The display order can be altered as previously described in Viewing Received Alarms. When you have finished viewing the Alarm Details, either leave the window on the screen and open another window, click on the Close button to remove the window, or click on the Minimise button to retain the details for inspection at a later time. Note: If required, the window may be re-sized to accommodate a second window (Refer to your Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT User Guide). Viewing Historic Data The temperature data can be viewed in the form of a graph which indicates the variations in temperatures, etc. over a specified time period. To view historic data in graph form, either click on the View Historic Data button on the Site Menu Options window, select the Historic Data option from the View pull-down menu, or press the Ctrl + H keys. 20 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss Central Station Version 3

In either case, the View Historic Data window is displayed. Specify the Start and End Time and Date by positioning the mouse cursor at the start of each entry box and modifying the field as appropriate or use the increment/decrement buttons as required. Now select the data items that you require by clicking on the appropriate descriptions in the Selection field. The selected alarm point type(s) will be highlighted. A different window will be opened for each graph. Finally, click on the OK button. The Historic Data window is displayed showing graphs of the first four analogue and digital points. Note: Graph temperatures are displayed to a tenth of a degree. Central Station Version 3 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss

Setting the Viewable Traces The data for each of the selected points is traced in a different colour. To select which traces are viewable, click on the Traces button. The Set Traces window is displayed. Click on the point description of the trace you wish to add or remove. The background colour of the description will change to white when a trace is disabled. Repeat the operation until only those traces you require have coloured backgrounds. Then click on the OK button. The Historic Data window is redisplayed with only the selected traces. Modifying the Graphical Displays The position of the cursor may be changed by clicking on it and dragging it to the left or right. As this is done, the values displayed alongside the point descriptions on the right hand side of the screen will assume new values according to the cursor position. In addition, there are buttons at the bottom of the screen and their functions are described as follows: This button displays the next part of the graph to the left. This button is only operative once the zoom function has been used. This button moves the cursor to the left one step at a time. The Tag button stores a cursor position as illustrated by the dotted line. If the cursor is subsequently moved and the zoom function then selected, the graph will be redrawn zoomed in between these two cursors. Note: The tagged cursor is placed at the time of the next sample. So, on a graph that has been zoomed in, the tagged cursor may not appear exactly where the cursor is. 22 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss Central Station Version 3

This button (Zoom) expands the graph to twice the size around the current cursor position or, if the Tag option has been used, between the tagged cursor and the current cursor. Note: A solid horizontal bar at the bottom of the graph indicates the portion of the complete graph that has been displayed. This button restores the previous level of zoom. This button moves the cursor to the right one step at a time. This button displays the next part of the graph to the right. This button is only operative once the zoom function has been used. The All Data button displays the entire originally requested graph from any level of zoom. When you have finished inspecting the graph, click on the Close button to remove the Historic Data window. 57 Appendix B Power management settings on laptop computers Power management settings on laptop computers can sometimes interfere with upload operations on COM ports. When this happens a successful connection is made between Central Station and the unit, but the upload can fail at any time, usually very soon after the start. Power management settings vary. Here are two methods of clearing the problem: 1. Go to Control Panel, Power. Press the Advanced button and select the Troubleshooting tab. Turn on Disable power status polling. 2. Go to Control Panel, Power. Set the Power management to Standard. If that fails, try Off. If your computer does not have these settings, turning off power management completely will solve the problem. But, in order to retain some form of power management, it is better to find exactly which setting to change. Central Station Version 3 Manual RS.8A.Q1.02 Danfoss
