2 Introduction: This document is an introduction to activating licenses online using a GE-IP Local License Server. In this example, we will look at setting up a computer as a Local License Server that will request GE- IP Advantage license from the GE Intelligent Platforms Cloud. A Proficy License Client will be configured to use a local intranet license server to connect to the Local License Server to activate a license. The Client and Server will be configured on the same PC for the sample. Local License Server version is Proficy License Client version is

3 Local License Server Install and Configuration NOTE: even though the License Server Configuration shows up in the Proficy Common Start menu folder, the actual Server may not be installed. To verify if the Local License Server is installed, Go to Start-> Control Panel -> Programs and Features and sort by name. In this case the server was not installed. Ensure that you have installed and are running the latest Proficy Licensing. The link to this is 3

4 Launch the installed downloaded from the above link and you will be presented with the Proficy Licensing installer splash screen. Click on the Install License Server option. The InstallShield Wizard will automatically install the Proficy License Server. 4

5 Click on the Finish button. To verify that the Local License Server is installed, Go to Start-> Control Panel -> Programs and Features and sort by name. You will see a Proficy License Server appear. 5

6 From the PC with the Proficy License Server installed with internet access, start the License Server Configuration by going to Start-> All Programs-> Proficy Common-> License Server Configuration (right click and run as administrator). Acknowledge any User Access Control prompts. You are presented with the Manage a License Server screen. Choose Edit Connection Settings. 6

7 In this example, the server will run locally so the Server Name or IP address is set to localhost. Click on Verify Connection to verify the connection to the GE Intelligent Platforms cloud then click Save and then Manage. If the Proficy License Server cannot connect to the GE Intelligent Platforms cloud: 7

8 Click on Add Licenses to Server. At the Add Licenses to Server screen, you are prompted populate to activation codes that the Local License Server will request form the GE Intelligent Platforms Cloud. 8

9 Refer back to the that you received from GE Intelligent platforms indicating that your order is ready. The Activation Code is highlighted below and will be an alpha numeric string of 16 characters (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx). 9

10 Enter in the Activation Code(s) from the (s) that you received and click on Next. The activation code is sent to the GE Intelligent Platforms cloud and the license is returned to your Proficy License Server installation. Click on the View Licenses link. 10

11 Your licenses and quantities are displayed. Click on Manage. This concludes the Proficy License Server install and configuration in this example. Activating a License from the Proficy License Server From the PC that will be connecting to the intranet Local License Server - Start the License Manager by going to Start-> All Programs-> Proficy Common-> License Manager (right click and run as administrator). Acknowledge any User Access Control prompts. 11

12 Choose Change Settings. Ensure that you are using a Device Name & Device Location that is identifiable, ensure that you have selected Use an intranet license server on the local network. Populate the license server URL and left click on Verify Connection. Left click Save and then left click the Welcome link. If there is no connection to the cloud server you will see: 12

13 NOTE: the License Server URL is the Full Computer Name. This may be found on the server machine by looking at the properties of the Computer (My Computer). Choose Manage Licenses. 13

14 Click on Activate. Click on Enter Activations. 14

15 You are presented with the Enter Activation Codes dialog. Click on the Browse link. Choose the product and select the checkbox for the license to activate and click on OK. You will see the chosen product under Codes to Activate. Click on the Activate button. 15

16 The Command Successful dialog is presented, click on OK. Note that the License Type is now Leased and the license displayed under Your License Products. You may view you license information under the View Licenses link. This concludes the introduction to activating licenses online from a Local License Server. 16
