6 About this Document About this Document Summary This document presents the procedures and processes necessary to configure a computer to run on Windows 7 Professional (x86) - 32-bit; and become an ADC 100 Client Computer. Before You Start This was created after installing Windows 7 Professional on an HP Compaq d530 CMT computer. This guide was written for Windows 7 Professional (x86) - 32-bit. Ensure the Windows 7 Professional computer has all available Windows Updates installed. Ensure the NIC Driver is updated to the most recent version. References Imagine Communications Corp. 7 Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Professional must be installed on the Client Computer for use in the ADC System. This chapter describes how to install Windows 7 Professional and any available Windows Service Packs and/or Updates. It is assumed that that this computer is connected to a network and that it is OK to re-format its System Drive. Installing Windows 7 Professional Follow these steps to install Windows 7 Professional. To Install Windows 7 Professional 1. Put the Windows 7 Professional disk into the DVD Drive. 2. Restart the computer. 3. Press any key on the keyboard when Press any key to boot from CD or DVD is displayed. 4. In the first Install Windows screen verify that: 5. English is entered for Language to install 6. English (United States) is entered for Time and currency format 7. US is entered for Keyboard or input method 8. Click Next. 9. In the next Install Windows screen click Install now. 10. Accept the license terms and click Next. 11. In the next Install Windows screen select Custom (advanced). 12. Select Disk 0 Partition 1 (the top one), click Drive options (advanced), select Delete, and click OK in the pop up warning window. 13. Select the next disk partition (if there is one), select Delete, and click OK in the pop up warning window. 14. Repeat Step 10 for any other remaining disk partitions (if there are any) on this disk. Note: After Extracting Files is displayed wait until a Set Up Windows screen is displayed in approximately 18 minutes. 15. In the Set Up Windows screen enter HARRIS for user name, enter the desired name of the Client Computer for computer name, and click Next Imagine Communications Corp. In the next Set Up Windows screen enter harris1 for Type a password (recommended), enter harris1 for Retype your password, enter ADC Manufacturer for Type a password hint (required), and click Next. 17. In the next Set Up Windows screen click Ask me later. 18. In the next Set Up Windows screen set the correct Date, set the correct Time, and click Next. 19. 9 Configuring Network Discovery Configuring Network Discovery Network Discovery must be enabled for the new Client Computer to be seen on the network. This chapter provides information for how to enable Network Discovery on the new Client Computer. Enabling Network Discovery Follow this procedure for Enabling Network Discovery on the Client Computer. To Enable Network Discovery 1. Select Start\Computer\Network: 2. Click on Network discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change, and select Turn on network discovery and file sharing: 3. 10 Managing the Windows 7 Professional Firewall Managing the Windows 7 Professional Firewall The Firewall for Private Networks in Windows 7 Professional needs to be disabled on the new Client Computer for it to work correctly in the ADC system, and for the installation of Windows Service Packs and\or Updates. This chapter covers configuration of the Firewall in Windows 7 Professional. Disabling the Windows Firewall Use the following steps to disable the Windows Firewall. To Disable the Windows Firewall 1. Select Start\Control Panel. 2. Click on the Category drop down arrow in the upper right corner of the Control Panel and select Small icons: 3. Select Windows Firewall: 4. 12 Windows 7 Professional Service Packs and Updates Windows 7 Professional Service Packs and Updates This chapter describes how to install any Windows Service Packs and/or Updates that are available for Windows 7 Professional. Installing Windows 7 Professional Service Packs and/or Updates Use the following steps to install Windows 7 Professional Service Packs and/or Updates. To Install Windows 7 Professional Service Packs and/or Updates Note: An internet connection is required to install Service Packs and/or Updates. The Client Computer default DHCP NIC setting should allow for this. An internet connection is not required if the Service Packs and/or Updates are available on other storage devices or media. 1. Select Start\All Programs\Windows Update. 2. Select Let me choose my settings: 3. Using the drop down arrow in the Important updates area select Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them, enable (check) Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates in the Recommended updates area, and click OK: 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. Select xx important updates are available, enable (check) all of the update checkboxes, and click OK. 6. 15 Lana Number Configurations Lana Number Configurations ADC Automation Device Servers and Client computers communicate via NetBIOS over TCP/IP, (NBT). For these computers to work together on this protocol they need to be configured to Lana number 0. Configuring Windows 7 Client Computers to Lana 0 Use the following procedure for configuring Windows 7 Client Computers to use Lana number 0. To Configure Windows 7 Client Computers to Lana 0 1. Locate Lanacfg.exe, highlight it, right click, and select Copy. 2. Browse to C:\Windows\System Right click, select Paste, and click Continue in the pop-up permissions window: 4. Close the Windows Explorer. 5. Select Start\All Programs\Accessories, hover over Command Prompt, right click, and select Run as administrator: 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. 16 Lana Number Configurations 6. Click Yes in the pop-up User Account Control window: 7. Enter lanacfg showlanapaths and press Enter on the keyboard. 8. Identify which Adapter is currently bound to lana 0, and which one needs to be changed to it. 9. In the following example lana 0 is currently bound to the Internet Protocol Version 6 <TCP/IPv6>-->Microsoft ISATAP Adapter, and the Internet Protocol Version 4 <TCP/IPv4>-- >Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit Adapter, (currently bound to lana 1), is the one that needs to be configured to lana 0: 10. To make lana 0 available enter lanacfg setlananumber 0 4, (the second number can be any number that is not currently displayed), and press Enter on the keyboard: 11. Enter lanacfg setlananumber 1 0 and press Enter on the keyboard: 12. Enter lanacfg rewritelanainfo and press Enter on the keyboard: 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. The Internet Protocol Version 4 <TCP/IPv4>-->Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit Adapter is now bound to lana 0: 14. 18 Configurations for the HARRISNET Workgroup Configurations for the HARRISNET Workgroup Before this new computer can be used in the ADC System it needs to be configured for the correct Workgroup. This chapter describes how to configure this Client Computer into the HARRISNET Workgroup. Configuring to the HARRISNET Workgroup Use the following steps to configure the new Client Computer into the HARRISNET Workgroup. To Configure to the HARRISNET Workgroup 1. Select Start, hover over Computer, right click, and select Properties. 2. Select Change settings. 3. Select Change on the Computer Name tab of the System Properties window. 4. 19 Configurations for the HARRISNET Workgroup 5. Click OK in the Computer Name/Domain Changes window: 6. Click OK in the next Computer Name/Domain Changes window: 7. Click Close in the System Properties window. 8. Click Restart Now in the Microsoft Windows window: 9. When the computer has restarted, enter harris for the password and click on the arrow on the right side of the Password field, or press Enter on the keyboard. 10. Select Start, hover over Computer, right click, and select Properties to open the System window. 11. The computer should now be in the HARRISNET Workgroup: 12. 20 NIC Configurations NIC Configurations The NIC in the new Client Computer must be configured specifically for ADC System communications. Power management is disabled on the ADC Automation NIC to assure that it is always available. This chapter includes sections on Power Management and Network configurations, and one for determining the Default Gateway to use. Note: Please consult with the local IT person to obtain the ADC Automation Network IP address information for this new Client Computer. Configuring NIC Power Management Use this procedure to disable Power Management on the Automation NIC. To Configure NIC Power Management 1. Select Start\Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center. 2. Select Change adapter settings. 3. Select the NIC that was configured to Lana 0, right click, and select Properties. 4. Select Configure in the Local Area Connection Properties window. 5. Select the Power Management tab of the NIC configuration window, Disable (uncheck) Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, and click OK: 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. 21 NIC Configurations Configuring Network Communications Follow these steps to configure the Client Computer NIC for ADC Automation network communications. To Configure Network Communications 1. Select the NIC that was configured to Lana 0, right click, and select Properties. 2. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties. 3. Select Use the following IP address, enter the given IP address, Subnet mask (and DNS address(es) if applicable), and then select Advanced. 4. Select the WINS tab, in the NetBIOS setting area select Enable NetBIOS over TCI/IP, and click OK: 5. 24 ODBC Configurations ODBC Configurations Now that networking is configured on this Client Computer, connectivity between it and the File Server can be established via ODBC. This chapter describes how to configure ODBC on the Client Computer. Configuring ODBC Use the following steps to configure ODBC on the Client Computer. To Configure ODBC 1. Select Start\Control Panel\Administrative Tools, and double click on Data Sources (ODBC). 2. Select the System DSN tab, select Add, scroll down, select SQL Server, and click Finish: 3. Select With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and a password entered by the user, enter HarrisDB for Login ID, enter HarrisDB for Password, and then click Next: Important: The Login ID and Password fields are case sensitive; HarrisDB must be entered. Note: A TCP/IP connection is enabled by default. Select Client Configuration to configure a Named Pipes connection. 5. Click Next: 6. Click Finish: 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. 27 Changing the CD/DVD Drive Letter Changing the CD/DVD Drive Letter The Drive Letters (D:), (E:), and (F:) must be available as they become mapped drives to the File Server. Changing the Client Computer s CD\DVD Drive Letter to (G:) make Drive Letters (D:), (E:), and (F:) available. This chapter contains the procedure for changing the Drive Letter of a CD\DVD Drive. Configuring the CD/DVD Drive to (G:) The following procedure describes how to configure the CD/DVD Drive in the Client Computer to Drive Letter (G:). To Configure the CD\DVD Drive to (G:) 1. Select Start, hover over Computer, right click, and select Manage 2. Select Disk Management, click on the CD/DVD Drive, right click, and select Change Drive Letter and Paths : 3. 29 Managing User Accounts Managing User Accounts This chapter contains instructions for enabling the Administrator account, (which is disabled by default), and giving it the password harris. It also includes a section for deleting the HARRIS account. The HARRIS account is not needed once the Administrator account is active. Enabling the Administrator Account Use this procedure for enabling the Administrator account and giving it a password, on the Client Computer. To Enable the Administrator Account 1. Select Start\All Programs\Accessories, hover over Command Prompt, right click, and select Run as administrator: 2. Click Yes in the pop-up User Account Control window. 3. Enter net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter on the keyboard: 4. Enter net user administrator harris and press Enter on the keyboard: 5. Close the Command Prompt by entering exit and pressing Enter on the keyboard, or by using the red X in the upper right corner of the window: 6. Restart the computer. 7. Select Administrator, enter harris for password and click on the arrow on the right side of the Password field, or press Enter on the keyboard Imagine Communications Corp. 30 Managing User Accounts Deleting the HARRIS Account Use these Steps when deleting the HARRIS account. To Delete the HARRIS Account 1. Select Start\Control Panel\User Accounts, and select Manage another account: 2. Click on the Category drop down arrow in the upper right corner of the Control Panel and select Small icons. 3. Select the HARRIS account, and then select Delete the account: 4. Select Delete Files: 5. Select Delete Account: 6. Close the Manage Accounts window Imagine Communications Corp. 31 Network Drive Mapping Network Drive Mapping ADC Client computers access data directories located on the File Server and must be mapped to those folders. This chapter includes the procedures for sharing folders on the File Server, granting those folders the correct permissions, and mapping them as Network Drives. Note: The following Sharing Folders on the File Server and Creating Permissions for Shared Folders sections describe configurations done to a File Server running on Windows Server 2008 Standard 32 Bit. These two procedures may vary for File Servers running on older Windows Server Operating Systems. If the folders on the File Server are already shared and have the correct permissions, go to the Mapping Network Drives section now. Sharing Folders on the File Server Use the following procedure to share folders on the Local Disk (D:). To Share Folders on the File Server 1. Select Start\Computer\Local Disk (D:). 2. Browse to the folder to be shared. 3. Highlight the folder, right click, and select Share : 4. Click Share in the File Sharing window. 5. Click Done in the File Sharing window. 6. This folder is now shared but it still needs permissions to be created for it. Creating Permissions for Shared Folders Now that the folders are shared, create access permissions for the Client Computers. 32 Network Drive Mapping To Create Permissions for Shared Folders 1. Right click on the shared folder and select Properties. 2. Select the Security tab, and click Edit : 3. Select Users in the Group or user names area, and in the Permissions for Users area enable (check), Allow for Full control: 4. Click Apply, and then OK. 5. 33 Network Drive Mapping Mapping Network Drives Use the following procedure to Map File Server Network Drives on the Client Computer. To Map Network Drives 1. Select Start\Computer, hover over Network, right click, and select Map network drive : 2. Using the drop down arrow select E: for Drive, enter the File Server name and Folder name in the format: \\ File Server name\ Folder name for Folder, and click Browse : 3. Select the File Server name, enter the File Server User name, enter the File Server password, enable (check) Remember my credentials, and click OK: 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. 35 Additional Client Configurations Additional Client Configurations This chapter includes a few more procedures for the new Client Computer, including creating a software install folder, configuring computer Power Management, and enhancing Folder views. Creating a Software Install Folder Use the following procedure for creating a software install folder that will hold Imagine Communications Applications and Setup Files. To Create a Software Install Folder 1. Select Start\Computer, and double click on Local Disk (C:). 2. Right click, select New, and then Folder: 3. Name the New Folder _SW_INSTALL: 4. To Configure Computer Power Management 1. Select Start\Control Panel. 2. Select Power Options: 3. Expand Show additional plans: 4. Select High performance: 5. If High Performance cannot be selected because it is disabled, click on Change settings that are currently unavailable: and then select High Performance. 6. To Configure the Client Computer for Auto Login 1. Select Start\All Programs\Accessories, hover over Command Prompt, right click, and select Run as administrator: 2. Enter control userpasswords2, and press Enter on the keyboard: 3. Disable, (un-check), User must enter a user name and password to use this computer, and click OK: 4. To Configure Folder Display Options 1. Select Start\Computer\Organize, and then Folder and search options: 2. Select the View tab, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, disable (uncheck) Hide extensions for known file types, click Apply, and then OK: 3. Select Start, right click on Computer, and select Rename: 2. Enter the name of the Client Computer: 3. Click on the area to the right of the Name field in the Start menu to complete renaming it: 4. 40 Automation Client Application Installations Automation Client Application Installations This chapter presents the procedure for installing Automation Client Applications. The example below is for installing the Air Client Application on a new Client Computer. The installation of a Client Application on a new computer changes its Node Type from Peer to Peer to Mixed. Installing a Client Application Use the following procedure to install Automation Applications on the new Client Computer. To Install a Client Application 1. Create a new folder in the _SW_INSTALL directory and label it with the application type and version number: 2. The Air Client Application on the new Client Computer is now functional: Change the Windows Aero Effect Theme If the Client computer is running Windows 7 Operating System, use standard Microsoft operations to change from the Windows Aero Effect theme to the Windows 7 Basic theme (or Windows Classic theme), change the Display properties (color of windows), and/or change text color and style as desired. IMPORTANT: To avoid unusual List/Prep Window behavior, it is recommended that the Windows 7 Basic Theme (or Windows Classic theme) be used instead of the Windows Aero Effect Theme. 1. From the desktop choose the Personalize option (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization) 2. Change from the Windows Aero theme to Windows 7 Basic theme (or even Windows Classic theme). This is the simplest way to disable light shadow of text (i.e. no transparency). 3. For advanced settings it is possible to choose Windows Color. 4. 48 Automation Client Application Installations Modify Advanced System Performance Options The system performance can be improved by changing the way the system processes visual GUI effects. 1. From the Desktop select Start> the computer name >System Properties>Advance System Settings 2. On the System properties dialog select the Advanced tab and then under Performance click the Settings button. 3. On the Performance Options dialog, select the Visual Effects tab, and then select option: Adjust for best performance. Note: This deselects all options. UAC on Windows 7 Operating System Air Client / Media Client for Device Server v11 and Device Server v12 have been merged into single Air Client and Media Client streams. Starting from Device Server release v12.16, Air Client/Media Client v4.16 are compatible with both the v11.59 and v12.16 and higher of Device Server software. To ensure stable client operations when connecting Air Client/Media Client v4.16 and higher to Device Server v11.59 and higher, disable UAC on Windows From the desktop select: Start > Control Panel > System & Security > Action Center. 2.
