4 1. Injury Management and Rehabilitation Policy Statement Horizon Power is committed to the provision of effective and pro-active injury management to facilitate where possible, the rehabilitation of workers that have sustained a work related injury or illness and, in certain circumstances, non-work related illness or injury. If a work related injury, illness or non-work related injury occurs, which requires a worker to gradually return to work, we will provide support during the recovery period. We will: offer occupational rehabilitation services where it is considered that this will be able to assist in preparing workers for the earliest return to work; and consult with workers to coordinate and implement an appropriate process to facilitate an efficient and cost effective return to pre-existing duties or suitable alternative duties. Where possible, workers will be encouraged to remain at work on limited or alternative duties. Where this is not possible, injured and ill workers will be encouraged to return to work as soon as possible (subject to medical clearance). Participating in a return to work plan will not prejudice an injured or ill workers rights. Workers will be fully advised of their rights and obligations and any changes to their rights and obligations under the relevant legislation in force from time to time. 2. Who does this Injury Management and Rehabilitation Policy Apply to? All employees and contractors working for Horizon Power or on Horizon Power controlled assets or projects, are required to understand, observe and ensure a demonstrated commitment to this Injury Management and Rehabilitation Policy and the associated injury management processes. For the purposes of this Policy, these persons are workers. Injured or ill workers should advise their treating doctor that Horizon Power or their employer will liaise closely with their medical practitioners to facilitate a return to pre-injury hours and duties as appropriate and where appropriate to do so, the employee should give permission to their treating doctor to disclose information to Horizon Power to facilitate an early return to work. It is the accountability of Horizon Power to ensure the accessibility of this Policy is provided to workers, working for Horizon Power or on Horizon Power controlled assets and projects. Formal leaders are accountable for ensuring compliance with this Policy within their working groups.
5 3. Purpose of the Injury Management and Rehabilitation Policy The purpose of this Policy is to provide effective principles for the management and guidance of work related injuries and illnesses and, in certain circumstances, non-work related injuries sustained by workers. This Policy supports the Horizon Power strategic direction for Safety, Value and Community. This Policy is embedded in Our Horizon Way within the safety and leadership performance drivers. The elements of this Policy formulate an approach to promote a positive work safety and health culture. This Policy may be reviewed and revised as and when required by Horizon Power. 4. Objectives The objectives of this Policy are to: adopt a structured, systematic workplace based approach to injury and claims management for worker s that have sustained work related and, in certain circumstances, non- work related injuries or illnesses; coordinate and implement a suitable rehabilitation process as soon as possible after the occurrence of an injury or illness, in a manner consistent with the capability of the worker and their medical report; ensure the coordination of timely and specialised medical care for workers that have sustained a work related injury or illness; coordinate a safe return to productive employment at the earliest opportunity, through effective communication and participation of key parties at all stages of the structured return to work process; develop a workplace culture supportive of early return to work and provide alternative duties, where possible, in alignment with the workers capacity and the availability of suitable employment, to facilitate a workers recovery and return to work; and comply with relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards.
