Published: September 2008 Abstract This guide will walk you through the steps required to publish a terminal services based application. Before beginning the walkthroughs, please review the System Requirements. If you experience any problems, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

2 System Requirements End User (Remote Client) System Requirements Hardware The IronDoor Application Portal interfaces run as ActiveX controls within the end user s Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser. We recommend the following for your remote end users: 700 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU At least 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM. 256 MB recommended Software The IronDoor client interfaces run as ActiveX controls within the end user s Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser: Windows XP SP2 or higher, Windows 2000 SP3 or higher or Windows Server 2003 SP1 or higher Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or higher. Internet Explorer options that allow signed Active X controls to be scripted. All IronDoor ActiveX controls are digitally signed with our corporate certificates. POP-UP blocker must be turned off for your IronDoor Web Portal address. Network The IronDoor client interfaces run as ActiveX controls within the end user s Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser: An Internet connection to your IronDoor Web Portal. A connection to your IronDoor Agent via either the Internet or internal LAN. Personal firewall definitions that allow outbound connections to the port range established in your IronDoor Agent definition within the WorldExtend Administrator. System Requirements 2

3 IronDoor Agent System Requirements Hardware You can install the IronDoor Agent (IDA) on any Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 computer in your network (i.e. on the same subnet as the computers you want to remotely access). The following are the minimum requirements to run the IDA. 800 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU At least 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM. 512 MB recommended Software IronDoor currently requires the following operating systems and software: Windows 2000 Server with SP3 or higher Windows Server 2003 with SP1 or higher The Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Network The IDA currently requires the following network and firewall configuration: An external TCP/IP address accessible over the public Internet. This does not have to be a static IP address. For an IDA configured as a Master or 0-Listener: o o A firewall definition that makes n sequential ports available for the internal TCP/IP address assigned to the server that is hosting the IDA. The IDA will randomly select one of the n port numbers when establishing a IronDoor connection. Example: Open 6 ports in the firewall, with port numbers 9000 through 9005 for IP A firewall definition that NAT s the external TCP/IP address to the internal TCP/IP address for those ports. For an IDA configured as a Secondary, no firewall changes are required. Pretense This walkthrough assumes that you have already: Installed WorldExtend IronDoor on a Windows Terminal Server or a computer on the same network as a terminal server. Installed the application you wish to publish on that terminal server. Setup your IronDoor Application Portal System Requirements 3

4 Adding a Windows Terminal Server Application The WorldExtend Administration system for IronDoor allows you to easily publish Terminal Server Applications in a matter of steps. The following walkthrough will illustrate how you publish Terminal Server applications to the web, I.E. QuickBooks, Word, Excel, ACT!, etc. Since you are connecting to a terminal server, you will need to determine the following things before defining it to IronDoor: 1. Determine which computer you need to access, hosting the desired application. 2. Is it accessible from your IronDoor Agent (i.e. is it in the same network)? 3. Is it setup for remote access and what is its address? To determine this: a. Log into the computer you want to access. b. Click Start -> Control Panel c. Click the System icon within Control Panel d. Click the Remote tab. e. Under the Remote Desktop section, make sure the Allow users to connect remotely or Enable Remote Desktop check box is checked. If not, check it. f. Click the Computer Name Tab and write down the computer name. g. Click OK. 4. Determine which users accounts you want to access applications and add them to the Remote Users Group. (If not done so already) a. Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Manage b. Expand Local Users & Groups, and Select Groups c. Double Click Remote Desktop Users. d. Click Add. e. Type the name of the users you wish to access applications and select ok Now that we have configured the terminal server you are ready to publish your application. 1. If you are not already, login to your Web Portal. a. Open Internet Explorer. b. In the address bar type the URL of your IronDoor Application Portal and press Enter. (You should have received an after creating your web portal with your username, password and URL.) Example:

5 c. You should be prompted with a page asking you to login to your application portal with you username and password. Enter your user name and password and click Login (Your username and password is also in the sent to you after you setup your web portal.) 2. Click the Manage System Tab on the top right corner of the window. It will open the WorldExtend Administration Main page.

6 3. In the left panel right click Applications and select New 4. Under What type of connection are you adding? select the Microsoft Terminal Services Program as the type and click the Next button.

7 5. Under What is the name of this application? Enter the name of the application that you will be accessing. Once completed, click the Next button. 6. Under Which IronDoor Agent or Group is required? select your IronDoor Agent from the dropdown list and click the Next button. 7. Most likely the computer you want to access is not defined to IronDoor. Under Which Computer is required? click the Add New Computer button.

8 8. On the Add Computer page, enter a description for the computer into the Description text box (if in doubt, enter the computer name). In the Address text box, enter the computer name EXACTLY as you wrote it down. Once completed, click the Next button.

9 9. Back under Which Computer is required? select your new computer from the dropdown list and click the Next button. 10. Under what is What is required to execute this program? Enter the following: a. Executable: The name of the executable file for the application, such as quickbooks.exe b. Install Folder: The folder the application is stored in, such as, c:\program files\intuit\quickbooks\ c. Work Folder (Optional): The working folder of the program as it exists on your server, for example, C:\Documents and Settings\User d. Command: Command line arguments for the application to handle upon launchtime.

10 e. Once entered, click the Next button. 11. Under What size to display the application window? select the size you wish users to be able to view the application window at.

11 12. Under What color resolution to display? select the appropriate color resolution and click Next. 13. Under What resources should be allowed? checks the appropriate check boxes and click the Next button. 14. Under Who can use this application? a list of your current users will be displayed. If all of the users requiring access to the desktop are listed, select them (and yourself), and click the Next button and go to step 17; otherwise, click the Add New Users button and go to the next step.

12 15. For each user you need to add, enter a User ID, Password and optional First Name and Last Name and click the Next button. When done adding users, click the Cancel button.

13 16. Back under Who can use this application? select all of your new users (including yourself) and click the Next button.

14 17. Congratulations! You have successfully added a new Terminal Services Application. Click the Ok button. 18. You will now be placed on the Applications page for permitted users. Click the Applications Tab. The Application you just added should appear. Click it. You now have access your application from anywhere you may need it.

You are not logged in as an administrator, hit log off and login as an administrator.
