1 Colleen s Interview With Ivan Kolev COLLEEN: [TO MY READERS] Hello, everyone, today I d like to welcome you to my interview with Ivan Kolev (affectionately known as Coolice). Hi there, Ivan, and thank you for allowing me to ask you questions about Amazon Marketing which I know that you are very successful with. Before I start, can you tell my readers about how you got started in internet marketing? IVAN: I got started in internet marketing about seven years ago. First I was doing it for other people and companies but seeing the success I had I decided to start working for myself. COLLEEN: Amazon affiliate marketing is one of the most popular methods to make money online. What do you think is the appeal of being an Amazon affiliate. IVAN: Truth is, Amazon has things just a bit better then any other affiliate program. For instance, it s probably the most trusted brand online when it comes to E-commerce sites. And they have built their site so well that it converts like crazy. Once you get people through the door they often buy a ton of stuff at a time so the commissions are great and they quickly add up. Amazon also runs great seasonal sales so being a long time Amazon affiliate you ll see those spikes coming up every year like clockwork. That reminds me Valentine s day is coming up! COLLEEN: Yes, it is, Ivan another great sales period for affiliates :O). How long have you been using Amazon as a marketing method? IVAN: I ve been using Amazon as a marketing method for around four years now switching from Adsense. At about that time I realized the big potential behind Amazon and it turned out to be a great move for me plus I didn t want to put all my trust and money into Google. COLLEEN: If we ve learnt anything as internet marketing putting your eggs in one basket is NOT a good idea. What do you have the most success using Amazon marketing for? IVAN: If I find a niche interesting enough, I do it. The more time and passion I put in it, the more successful I am. Plus, there s some niches that require certain technical understanding to write about and promote effectively. So if I don t know much about a certain niche I d stay away from it. With that said, there s some great niches such as toys, health and beauty products, baby products which everyone can get into and succeed. COLLEEN: They are all great niches that are evergreen and will consistently sell well :O). What do you think is the reason that some marketers fail at Amazon marketing or don t have the kind of success that they long for? 1

2 IVAN: Lack of a good foundation. I mean, everyone is out there building the same uninspired little blogs promoting affiliate products. You just got to put yourself above the competition to succeed and that requires to build a better website and do product and keyword research. COLLEEN: Yes, research is critical with anything online and putting in that extra effort. Are there particular niches that you feel do better, from an affiliate point of view, than others with Amazon? IVAN: Yes, for a niche to be really profitable, the market has to have an irrational passion. Great niches to start with are toys, video games, jewelry, beauty products and others. These are the ones I had the most success with as well. COLLEEN: Are there any niches that you tend to steer clear of when you are promoting amazon products? IVAN: I d stay away from any niche I know very little of and that requires some sort of technical expertise. COLLEEN: When a person chooses to become an Amazon associate or affiliate, what do you think are the most common mistakes that they make? IVAN: Giving up too early, not having put enough initial effort into it at all. Picking the wrong niche is another example of that. Just because a niche sells high-priced items and has a good earning potential doesn t mean it is the right one for you. COLLEEN: What can Amazon affiliates do to earn bigger profits with their marketing promotions? IVAN: I always recommend social marketing. Build a Facebook page, get a Twitter account and get involved in the conversation. It s much easier when you get those fans and followers to start converting them into buyers. COLLEEN: What is your preferred method for getting Amazon sales? Do you create review sites, build amazon stores, create product review videos? IVAN: I build Amazon stores and promote them. That allows me to promote many products at the same time and offer a wide array of buying choices. At the same time I can concentrate and promote on any product in particular with product reviews and videos. COLLEEN: What have been some of your most successful results as an Amazon affiliate? IVAN: I don't like to throw any numbers here and I m not the biggest Amazon Affiliate out there. I have earned thousands of dollars from the sites I've built promoting Amazon affiliate products though. COLLEEN: Do you outsource any of your amazon tasks or do you do it all yourself? IVAN: I typically outsource or automate many tasks. After all, we re in this business to make money and have more time. COLLEEN: What do you believe is the most important part of a successful Amazon marketing campaign? 2

3 IVAN: The foundation. If you fail at this your site won t see much action, if any. COLLEEN: Ivan, have you used Facebook to promote Amazon products at all and, if so, what kind of results did you get? IVAN: Yes, I have build a Facebook page for pretty much every website I ve created and it s one of the main traffic sources. I build engagement and following and then I send them to my affiliate offers. COLLEEN: Wonderful, Facebook and Amazon go like bread and butter!! What are the tried and true methods to advertise Amazon websites that you feel will always work to drive traffic to an Amazon site? IVAN: Facebook and Pinterest always work great and are the best methods for quick results. COLLEEN: Are there tedious tasks associated with Amazon marketing that take some time to do properly but are considered very important? IVAN: Yes, as with anything there s some tedious tasks and Amazon affiliates have those too. What I do is either automate them through a software I build or outsource the work. COLLEEN: Are there some things you can do to automate some of the tedious tasks? IVAN: Absolutely. There are lots of software you can use to automate these tasks. In fact, I ve built a lot of Amazon stores and plugins to help with that and I regularly use them myself. COLLEEN: You are well known for creating some of the most beautiful Amazon stores for amazon affiliates. Why did you start creating these Amazon stores? IVAN: I wanted to create a software that allows you to build Amazon stores for specific highly profitable niches, without any of the typical hassles like design, research and content creation and at the same time is something that is beautifully designed and extremely effective. The first Amazon store I built turned out to be such a success that since then I ve built a lot, lot more. COLLEEN: Can you give my readers some of your best methods for getting traffic to your Amazon stores? IVAN: Certainly. I find social marketing to be one of the best methods for getting great results and pushing a lot of traffic. I have marketing guides that go into detail on how to get traffic to your Amazon stores packed with every product I release. On top of that, I do a weekly newsletter exclusive for my customers each Sunday where I go through a specific method for getting sales with the Amazon stores. COLLEEN: Ah that s wonderful, Ivan. Can you reveal any results that affiliates are getting with some of your Amazon stores? IVAN: I don t want to give you any numbers here as it varies but typically my customers are getting their first sales in the very first few days of their Amazon stores being set up and start getting stable traffic and revenue in about two weeks. 3
