1 Thank you for your interest in becoming a Mentor to one of our Generation Gold Employees. About Kinross Generation Gold Program The Generation Gold Program is part of Kinross overall strategy to develop its talent pipeline. Since 2006, we have recruited top university graduates who are interested in the opportunity to extend and deepen their learning through practical, on-the-job experience across a broad spectrum of our operations. Graduates come from a variety of disciplines, including mining, chemical, and mechanical engineering, geology, and metallurgy. Generation Gold candidates are sourced through Kinross s annual on-campus recruitment drives in the countries where we operate. The selection process is rigorous and culminates in 8-10 candidates being brought to Toronto for a panel interview with a group of senior Operations and Corporate leaders. Only five candidates are accepted into the program each year. The program lasts four years and consists of a series of 12-month assignments both in home country and at international locations. In each assignment Generation Gold employees are given the opportunity to develop their experience and expertise, while adding value and contributing to their host team or department. Value and Purpose of the Mentor Program: The purpose of the Mentor Program is to connect newly-hired Generation Gold employees entering their first year of the program with an experienced Kinross leader. This partnering has the potential for multiple benefits: From an organizational standpoint, a successful Mentoring program can help to: Build bench strength Create a culture of development Drive employee engagement and retention Foster productivity and performance Increase cross-organizational communication Provide a low-cost development opportunity For the Mentor In addition to the organizational benefits, there are also advantages for the mentors as mentoring is itself a useful and illuminating development opportunity for even an experienced leader and can provide insight into critical aspects of the organization that might not be otherwise obvious. Actively participating as a mentor can: Drive self-awareness Expand the mentor s professional network Improve leadership skills Increase awareness of available talent throughout the organization Increase visibility throughout the organization Leaders who are interested in being mentors through the Generation Gold Mentoring Program should complete this form and submit to Kallin Moore in Corporate HR. The Generation Gold Steering Committee will review all submissions and determine best matches for the new Generation Gold employees once the group for 2011 is selected.
